Hey peoples,
I am in need of ideas as to why my car won't start up right away. It could take up to 15 minutes b4 it starts. I turn the key and not a sound. I keep doing this until all of a sudden the car just starts like it was my first try. Like I said sometimes from 5 minutes to like 15 minutes before it starts. The battery is a new one. Otherwise I guess I have to take it into the dealer cuz I don't get it. So got any suggestions or ways to try and figure out what is up with the car? It is a 95 240sx with like 82,000 miles. I was almost thinking that maybe the neutral sensor is jacked or somethin. Just a wacky thought.

Thanks,
Monique

I had this exact same problem. Flat spot in the starter. Click it over fast, and it should kick in. Get a local garage to test it for you.

My bet is on corrosion on the battery or starter terminals.

I have this problem whenever I faulk around with the battery, it turned out that the "corrosion" that had gotten on my negative terminal was enough so that if I didnt go nutzo when cranking it down the car wouldn't start. So like duffman suggested check your battery leads.

I think it is safe to say that I can rule out corroded terminals and battery. When I replaced the battery last weekend I gave both terminals a good cleaning. Not much cleaning was needed for only the positive was a bit grungie. I guess I can look into the starter idea. So where should I look for something like that?
