Anybody have regret taking the ac out of your street/track car? I will be installing sr20det in my s13 pretty soon. I am debating wheter to keep the ac or not. It will be manly a strip/street car since I have a couple daily drivers. Summer is humid here in midwest. Long, several hours away, drive to the track is what I am concern about. I rarely use ac since most of my daily driver car ac do not work anyway. But this s13 might have working ac. If I took the ac out and regretted it later, I might have trouble putting it together again. I always loose and forget parts .

Any input

if ur worried about it just keep it now and yeah u could save 100 pounds or so but that only equates to .10 sec quicker, not worth it, if thats ur daily, and plus u most likely will be runnning small amount of power

A/C and all it's components are only around 35lbs...you can find other ways to save similar weight, if it's still a street car.

Keep the A/C.

I still have my A/C in my 14 that is a street/track car... Worth it. You don't save much weight and during the summer months its really nice to have the cold A/C. Just make sure the welds are really good since the lines have to be modified. If they aren't then the lines wont hold a charge and it wouldn't work anyways....

I took mine out in my last two cars and never regretted it. I'm more of a window open kind of guy anyways

I usually drive with my windows open too, but when I eventually swap in an SR I'm going to retain A/C. Mostly because Florida summers induce ball soup, but also because my A/C currently doesn't work :-/

Bottom line: No A/C is for lazies and full blown track-only competition racecars.

Where you drag? US41?

I would leave it. My first 240 had the AC removed and my friends and girlfriend HATED driving in it.

EDIT I just saw that its not your daily. I would still leave it though, for the drive up.

If you and your girl dont mind the heat, then pull it and save the 35-40lbs.

there was a weight to HP breakdown somewhere.
Basically every 20lbs removed is equal to adding 1 hp.

I have mine out, and its a pain in LA, but its the trade off for trying to get the most out of a SOHC.

Its... every 100 lbs is 1/10 second off the quarter mile time.

I'd say keep it...If it's humid and you're stuck in traffic you'd REALLY miss it...Unless it's a full on track car, keep the A/C...

i have A/C on my sr and love it. i left it on because i drive when its 124 + out side .. just take off the clutch fan and put on some E fans to gain the lost HP ...

ditching working ac is the worse idea ever. in the event your doing some kinda performance driving you wouldnt have the ac on and your windows would probly be down already. when the ac clutch isnt engaged i/e when your not using ac the draw on the motor from that extra pulley is MAYBE 2-3 BHP not even wheel. not to mention 35lbs? seriously? run 1/4 tank of gas if its that serious.

keep it if it works. and if it dosent fix it. unless your like me and the windows are down 24/7 even if it works... then just take it out.

i would leave it too, unless your building an extreme track car that‘s competing in time attack than yeah 35 lbs makes a difference. AC is so great when you need it!

if you're not married already, I'd keep the A/C when installing the motor. lol, trust me, taking females in your car, even just to the track, will be appreciated much more if you retain the cooling system.

Keep it you will regret it and then try to lie to your self that your a window type guy when really you do indeed wish you kept the A/C components lol.

keep ac...taking it off only depreciates the value of the car. hell i sold my s13 hatch with SR...basic me too mods for wayy more than any of my buddies could get for the simple fact the buyer HAD to have AC..and i was the only sr swaped s13 locally who did. so yea chaa ching!

Definitely keep it. I bought my car without the ac and it's a pain getting the parts again and installing them with the engine in.

stripping stuff out of a street car is retarded, esp gutting your car unless its track only.
