hey guys i recently bumped into a problem that is forcing me to change my steering rack.

i have an 89 coupe and i was trying to swap steering racks with my buddy that has a 92 s13 LE that was fully loaded....now the steering that i have on my car (the 89 coupe) comes from an s14...

turned out, when i tried to swap, that the steering rack from my 89 coupe has a smaller outer diameter compared to my buddies 92 rack.... is there something i should know about that whole dimention size issue before ordering a new steering rack or potentially buying it one here and getting it shipped at the risk of getting screwed over?

any info will help

thanks guys:trogdor:

your saying there are thicker bushings available too?? ...cuz one of the bushings fit perfectly but the other one (the round bushing) was causing me the problem....my rack was too thin when i tried bolting it down to my buddy's rack

S14s and S13s use different bushings.

S13s have the benefit of being able to use the cheap ES bushings to replace the stock ones, while the S14s can only use one ES bushing, while the other has to be the Nismo bushing or otherwise.

This is old stuff man, do a search...

Actually the ES kit now includes bushings for both S13 and S14 racks.

But yes, the passenger side bushing is different between the chassis, the driver side is the same and fits both racks.
