I have a chance right now to buy a '93 fastback 5spd. The car however has a blown KA (perfectly fine w/me ;) ) but the thing that bothers me is that the passenger side door has been replaced and the panel at the bottom where the door meets the chassis is bent (looks like it got tail happy and had a little run in..) Mind you I'm getting the car at a VERY good price, but the seller says he had to get a new title, tag, and register it because the previous owner had only a bill of sale for the car.. (no title nothing :( ) which worries me because of something like this..
[I dont know if you guys read this before but here you go
part one (http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e21/forum.php?postid=3378984)
part 2 (http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e21/forum.php?postid=3379064) ]
Now other than that the car is very nice. Mint interior, good paint, no rust, ice cold a/c (a must in FL).. what would you guys do? go for it? I have the time/space/money to fix it up the the title thing worries me..
hint- anybody have free carfax? [JN1MS36PXPW304769]
Thanks
What do Banyan trees and M3's have to do with that car?
Anyways, I say pass. Even if its for $600 or less. Although Id buy it if it were like $300 and part it out.

if you read through it (and i know its long so i dont blame you if you dont) its a storry about a guy and how this "too good to be true" 89 M3 turned out to be an 89 totalled with a 91 front half BONDOED onto it and vins swapped all over the place.. which is why the whole title thing worried me. but i just carfaxed it and the title is fine. i'm having a friend that works autobody check it out so i'll probably end up getting it by this weekend.

That is a hell of a story. I read all the threads, they not only have his number posted (both of them the seller) and his name, but have pictures of him posted as well. The bad thing is the :mrmeph: lives about 15 miles away from where I live. That dude is a thug IMO and hope the cops bust him soon. One call to the local news would have that dude locked up tight. Damn...that is a sad drama story and must read for those considering getting a car that you don't know about.
Sidebar:
I got the clutch in and it is wonderful. I am breaking it in slowly, nothing radical yet. I wusssed out. Got a friend with a real killer mechanic and they put it on the lift and did the job in LESS THAN ONE HOUR!. Dude rocks. Careful too!
It helps to be a gearhead and know a dude with all the tools and the lift. Sorry I wusssed out...but hey...in 90 degree heat laying under a car with sand in your hair in the rain..I cannot think of anything more disspleasing after a 70 hour work week.

Wow, nice story.
But, there is a difference between a "too good to be true" M3 and an s13 with a blown KA :P

That dude with the M3 must have been pretty upset to write all that crap about a car.

I liked that story it was very good. (About the M3..) takes an hour to read. I'll never buy an old-*** M3.
