Just researched to find the cold crank amps for the slim odyssey battery kind of blows. . .
my battery struggles to start up the car in the morning so i'm starting to get nervous and considering if i should just do a relocation kit and get a beefier battery or just stick with the odyssey.
some of you might have some inside information that i can't seem to find but does optima or any other company make a slim battery with better cca?
what do you guys do to alleviate the weak battery problem?

I am not sure if the info I found on the web was correct, but they mention that it is 220cca. Thats the cca's needed for a civic.
Not sure how many cca's are needed for our cars. It should be around 300-350 or more.
heres a westco battery Westco Mini Battery 12V (http://www.frsport.com/Westco-Mini-Battery-12V_p_1064.html)
its 25lbs, small, and 475cca.

braille batteries are too rich for my blood, looking at the miata battery as the better option. any word on relocating? not worth it?

this is from FRSport:
Odyssey SLIM Drycell Battery PC680. Odyssey drycell batteries feature long cycle life and higher stable voltages for longer periods of time. The PC680 provides 680 cold cranking amps for 5s and provides over 17 amp hours.

According to the Odyssey website, the CCA is 220
ODYSSEY Batteries - Battery Specifications (http://www.odysseyfactory.com/battspecs.html)
and the 680 refers to PHCA: "What is the PHCA rating? Unlike CCA and MCA the pulse hot cranking amp (PHCA) rating does not have an “official” definition; however, we believe that for true SLI purposes, a 30-second discharge is unrealistic. The PHCA, a short duration (about 3-5 seconds) high rate discharge, is more realistic. Because the discharge is for such a short time, it is more like a pulse."
which sounds like they're claiming their battery will have a higher crank for a shorter duration but without an "official" definition, this could also mean there is no "official" rating system no?

The starters in our cars require at least 550 CCA. They will start with 475 but you cannot crank on a 475 CCA battery to many times before it will drain. Hence people being able to use Miata batteries but sometimes having a charge issue with them if they do not start the car up and run it every day.
First off, PHCA if I remember correctly is like peak cranking amps. CCA is much more important for longevity and the ability to start our cars.
The other thing to remember about most sealed batteries is they are different from regular stock batteries in the way they charge. If you try to do a rapid charge with a charger you can kill the battery.
They need to be trickle charged. They also need to be charged on a regular basis be it through trickle or starting and running your car regularly. If you do not do either the battery will drain down and die. Sure you may bring it back once or twice but it will kill it before its rated lifetime.
Been there, seen it.

so what battery do you use for yours (or is it relocated)? still have your RB, and if yes does the fmic not get in the way like the sr's does?

Apexi use to make a front mount intercooler kit which the pipping goes behind
the battery under the fuse box so you can keep the full size battery.
The best part was you can paint the pipping and ic flat black and most cops can't tell
it's a front mount.
too bad they discontinued a great product due to low price ebay crap.

I was using a westco Miata battery turned sideways.

ya, you can have one custom made by any shop(price will be pretty high).
the apexi kit uses a gtr intercooler core so, if the pipping are made
then you can use any R32/R33/R34 stock intercooler.
I actually have the last apexi kit in my personal collection and was thinking
of making the pipping kit.
I like to collect discontinued parts, just like I have the last
pair of brand new s13 square(halogen) headlights.
personally I don't think they'll be a demand for the pipping kit especially
in this economy not a good time to develop products.

I used a crx interstate battery for years with no issues
The odyssey battery is ok for a weekend only car, and you'll need to use a trickle charger in between. If I leave my car for a week or two without starting it, the battery will be dead. If I start it every day or two it's fine. I can't sit and listen to the radio with the car off for very long or anything tho.
