1 day paint good?

Thinking about taking my 20 year old sun broken paint to do a 1 day (earl scheib, maaco). Does anyone have any experience with these $300 paint jobs? I'd love to see some pictures if anyone has any.

You get what you pay for. I got one once on my very first car, and will never go there again. The paint was all one color, and they actually did a decent job of masking off some areas. But there was overspray and the paint started to crack in areas after a year.

If you are only willing to pay $300 for a paint job, you are going to get $300 worth of work on your car.

Get the warranty...remove everything your can.....lights, mouldings, window seals...etc.

Yeh its a production job....but you can buy your own paint and get a two stage job instead of single stage job....

Always look at the final job parked out front....no two shops are alike...some turn out a better product then the next....

that cost me like 1k because i gave it to them in pieces and told them to spray every piece seperate, a lil fg repair on spoiler and shave the rear side markers.

but it was no 1 day turn around, more like a week or 2 back in 06..

Check out maaco, they will more than gladly show you other project cars around their shop. They didnt do any body prep though, could have been better if I took the time to do more prep.

i heard they do pretty good work as far as the actual spraying but I also heard they use shitty paint.

I would mask my own car, give them some good quality paint and have them prep/spray it and only charge the labor.

earls makes their own paint to keep prices low. also since price is low labor work and effor prob wont be as a 1500$ paint job

its mostly single stage.

its no good. get 2 stage and you will be happier for a long time.

$300 will get you cracked paint a year later. And dont think it bonds well Maaco peels easy. If you have a good painter it comes out nice but better have someone sand it and buff it otherwise looks uneven in some spots if it isnt done correctly. I am in the process of getting body work and paint and really dont wanna have to paint it every year lol

this has been covered many times and the only thing it's gonna lead to is a whole bunch of people dissing either side of the argument... If that's what you can spend buy it, if you can pay more, pay more... It all depends on how you're going to be using your car. I bought my paint so I could find someone to do my paint correctly. Just gotta find someone now.

If you're just gonna crash your car, go ahead get a 1day paint job, don't expect anything from it other than good looks for a couple years.

but like said before, just a warning. Do all the prep work yourself (sand it and remove your muffler and anything else you dont want over spray on). They will paint over mufflers, screws, bolts, whatever is on the outside will have overspray/paint on it. Just save up more money and get a good paint job or DIY. To be honest it's much more worth it if you save up at least a couple hundred more to have a decent paint job.

thanks guys, im just looking to hav a color on the car even if it last a year... i prolly wont have this car for that long. thats why i figure a cheap job would be sufficient. i guess what it comes down to is prepping the car before it goes in.

My friend got his civic painted the stock metallic green. Didn't look bad at all. Just had overspray on some stuff but nothing to call home about. It would be best if you give it to them already prepped and masked off and all they have to do is lay paint.

Most can vouch about my ride. Shit looks fucking amazing for a $400 paint job.

It used to cost me $400 in materials and prep to do it myself.

And as others have said. They have the skills doing thousands of paint jobs. They are just NOT paid to prep or give a fuck. So strip your shit yourself, and you are golden.

I removed all trim, mirrors, lights, etc right in their driveway!



Oh yeah - its also better than these rattle-canned pieces of fuck most of these guys are driving around. So i say go for it.

Read up on Earl Sheib. They were worried about the paint quality as well, and have made some changes. They now use a Euro-blend thats a bit better quality than the shit they used to spray.

For $300, you shouldn't even worry about the quality. It will probably look better than it does now. Do it. at least it will hold you over till you're ready for real paint.

Maaco paint job...people dont' believe it. Just primer and spray, no clear. It was more than $300.

Its a track car but I can honestly say its the best money I've spent on the car since I bought it.

The key is to find a Maaco that has decent reviews.

sand the car good good with 400-500 wetsandpaper...make sure to use a block so your paint lays out nice and even if you dont your panels will come out wavy...

some of those cars come out pretty nice after the 1 day, but as far as lasting, i'm not too sure, My opinion would be to prep yourself and pay them to paint, it may last a lot longer imo

Like they said up top you get what you pay for, but if you end up not liking the quality of the paint job it ends up costing you more$ to take all the crappy paint off and put real paint on

they do use clear. they just mix it with the paint for what they call stage 1 i think. If it was just paint it wouldnt have the gloss

But anywho, 300 bucks for a car that you are going to drift, no reason to spend 1k on a job that is going to be ruined within a couple months anyway

Hell, another CHEAPER alternative is doing it yourself with a single-stage paint.

They sell 3M "scotch" pads. Scuff up your entire car with it so the paint can stick, mask/remove shit you don't want painted, and shoot.

Borrow a compressor, buy a cheap harbor freight gun, spend around $140 in prep/paint materials, and have a go at it.

It won't be perfect, but it definitely beats the rattle canned bullshit.

This was what i was going to do but didn't have a place to spray the car so i rattle can instead and it came out ok
