I have a question for those with variant 3's. I just picked up a set for my s14 and while installing them onto my stock rear upper mounts i found that it doesn't seem to want to bolt down all the way. When driving it sounds like the washer on the bottom of the mount is tapping it

, and when trying to tighten the bolt down the piston just seems to spin. How are you guys tightening this bolt down? I was thinking about either using an impact wrench or a spring compressor to hold the spring down while we tighten the bolt.. any insights are appreciated.

you can use an impact gun.
but i think the piston should have a hole on top to accept an allen wrench to hold the piston and use a regular wrench to tighten the nut.

and fyi on a coilover usually you dont need spring compressors because you can screw down the spring perch so the spring is still on the shockbody but its completely loose.

or it has a unthreaded flat section above the threads so you can hold it with vice grips or pliers (not the ones for cutting).

Actually I tried that =/ the top part of the piston is a little 5mm and we cant seem to get enough torque on the other end to tighten the bolt enough to lower it to the washer.

it should go super easy until its actually sitting properly and tight.

check the threads on the piston they might be ruined
check the other side if its sitting properly if yes find what you forgot to put on if
