here is a cheap and easy way to get around the inhibitor switch if you want to run cruise control and drop the top. Took me awhile to find this answer so i will bring it here:
FSM >>> http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/240sx/1992_240SX_Convertible_Service_Manual_Supplement.p df

it's pretty easy to read a FSM once you figure out how to look at an electrical diagram.Turn to page 20-19 for the wiring diagram. If you look at the top up/down switch, you'll notice it has 5 wires coming off of it.
1 5 3
x 6 4
That's the pinout, x is a blank spot in the plug. There's a green wire going to pin 3 that is coming from the inhibitor plug. This is the power wire, it is supplied only when the inhibitor is set to park or neutral. What you do is cut the wire near the switch and tap it into something that is on an ignition switched circuit. I tend to use the radio for a circuit to tap into, but you may want to use something else. The cigarette lighter is a good candidate too. It's tapped off a 15A fuse, and is the only thing on its circuit. Just don't run the top AND have something plugged into the lighter at the same time. The wire for the lighter is Orange/Black. And you can get to it by pulling the center console.

I'm assuming you're talking about for a 5 speed swap. I tapped my green plug into a 12v switched that comes out of the inhibitor switch iirc. I don't see how that fixes the cruise control though.

With the convertable and a to be able to make the drop top you have to slice into the inhibitor. problem is a lot of people cant get the ASCD to work after you have already spliced into it for the top... in order to get the cruise to work the top must be hooked up to a switch and what not. the method i posted is just a easy way around to not using a switch . kinda complicated.....

I did rig my inhibitor switch so that the top operates at all times, but my cruise control still does not work. I don't see how the operation of the top and the cruise control module are related.

That link might be useful though, I have been dying to have my cruise back.

BTW, are you running a KA or SR? That write up mentioned the wiring is different for the SR.

RB :snoop:, and the top is only suppose to work when the car is in "park" from you splicing the inhibitor thats what you make the car think....NOW when you have cruise control from my understanding cruise controls stops when you tap the brake. from the inhibitor being sliced up its kind of hard to make the car think that its in park without making a whole new switch....The way i posted allows you to just bypass that and so you pretty much have a less of a mess of a inhibitor wiring. i may be wrong correct me if i am.

I'm not sure the cruise control draws a signal from the park circuit. For a while I had not wired up the convertible top to work after my 5 speed swap, but my cruise still did not work at that point. The car would have thought it was never in park before I fixed the wiring.

Does your cruise work? I think the link you posted answered the question though, showing how you have to splice the speed sensor cable, not the park circuit.

The problem is that the ATU and the ASCD are connected by two wires. One wire is a constant voltage, so I believe the other is a ground. When the car is in drive, it completes the ground for the ASCD and allows it to work. try completing the ground, and it still wont work... im not really sure about all this cruise stuff.
i just thought maybe anyone who couldnt get the top to work would like this as its pretty easy to do.
