Has anyone gotten a vlsd installed by a local shop? If so (and they did a good job) could you please let me know. Also I am a little concerned as my friend has warned me that not many people can install lsd's correctly. Is this also true with vlsd's? Is it a difficult install? - Thanks

i Highly suggest u have a shop install the LSD..or have them drop it in the pumpkin and u can bring it home and install it urself.
as for VLSD..u can do it urself. my friend and i installed my VLSD and it took 3hrs..IF u have all the tools wiht u..u DONT wanna start and end up not having all the tools
if u like..mayb i can help u? its good to practice.
EDIT: if u want a shop to install ur VLSD..i called Tech3 in San Jose and they wanted 280. i think they are a rip.

WHAT?!
a vlsd full pumpkin?
9 out of 10 if 10 is hardest?
SHHIIIIT amateurs!!
took me and my friend um..2 hours or so to put it in and out. others i know do it BY THEMSELVES in 2 hours haha..
its a VERY easy job
just tkaes patience and time
real difficulty: 3 of 10
time wise: expect 5 hours if first time..it is tricky doing it
tools? basic sockets, open ended wrenches and a torque wrench (hand tools)
jack, 2 jack stands
basically
jack car
put no jack stands
remove sway bar (ye sit is easier i its removed)
unhook and unbolt exhaust rear section (dont unbolt from itself but frmo hangesr)
push to left of car (to clear the output shaft completely)
remove 6 bolt sides of output shaft
remove 4 rear bolts on subframe
remove the 4 front bolts on the yolk to driveshaft
remove 2 upppoer bolts at front to subframe
drop diff
reverse order to install new pumpking
NOW if you are tlaing about installing INTERNALS into a pumpkin
YES you need toolks and KNOWLEDGE..or at least a FSM and the tools
but installing a pumpkin? kids stuff.....

Dont Forget breaker bar dousan... that thing is pivotal if the top subframe bolts dont wanna let go! that was the hardest part for me and my homie... but after we got those off took us less than 2 hours! If you want to start to work on your car by yourself this is a great first and easy mod! just be sure to fill it with diff fluid before you install it. LoL makes life soo much easier!

I was going to take out my open diff and put in a JDM LSD. I found out i needed VLSD output flanges. That took about 4 hours to take out the pumpkin, open pumpkin, take out open diff, put in LSD, found out stock output flanges don't work, put back in open diff, close up pumpkin and put it back in the car. I need VLSD ouyput flanges and willing to pay $150. Nick

Hey guys... thanks for all the help/reply's! I love this site and all the help I get! Anyway I purchased a vlsd from a jdm s13. I'm assuming that it is a direct pumpkin replacement. So I might try to install it myself. Although you guys did not mention anything about the drive shafts. Are those hard to install?
:bigok:
Also- How many of you guys began/learned to drift with a vlsd? Thanks again and happy drifting!:D
