Well I have not riced mine out with neon or stripes but I use a 1.8mhz emachine basic crapola 400 dollar box that rocks hard. 512 megs of ram, 400 FSB, plextor CDR/CDRW and audigy 2 sound card...and this is my internet puter.

My audioworkstation for the recording studio is a big bastard that I built that runs like a chainsaw without the chain or saw.

heheehe i might have the oldest PC on this board - bought it around july 1997  and its still running....slowly. its a:

pentium 200mhz MMX, 32mb ram, 2 gb hd, diamond stealth 3d 2mb video ram, SB AWE32, 32x cd-rom, 15" monitor.

i barely use it though, as most of the time i mooch off my bro and sister's computers, they have P4s hehe.

i should have a new pc by the july though. im planning on P4 2.4ghz, 512mb ram (maybe 1gb), 80 gb w/8mb buffer hd, geforce 4 mx440 64mb, SB audigy gamer/mp3+, dvd-rom, cd-rw, 19" monitor. :D

GS, we should have a rice-fest and see who can take their old computer to the ricy side of little saigon and see what we come up with. I got all thise stupid stickers, some neons and some pinstriped I could put on mine...a can of deep purple and hot pink paint, and some gold trim. It would be so funny to have a rice-out with our old computers for $hits and giggles.

At least you can be creative with it....

Funny...me too. This was my first attempt at building my own.
2.4mhz
512fsb
512ram
80gig hd

Works well but doesn't like XP too much. I have to do a system recovery about once a month:bash:

No need to rice out your computer when you can get it that way from the factory. Yep, mac user here.

Apple Power Macintosh G4 (Quicksilver)
733 Mhz (real Mhz, not PC overclocked BS)
384 MB RAM
40 gig HD (full of 240 pics and music)
15" Apple Studio Display

Mac OS runs perfect for me always has and this computer can do everything I need it to.

and here are pics of the factory rice:

i use two:

1) homebuilt - made for audio recording:

Athlon XP 1800 overclocked to 1.9ghz on stock fan
Gigabyte GA7VAXP mobo
512 mb pc2700
WD 120gb hard drive (special edition w/ 8mb cache)
Radeon 7500LE
M-Audio Delta 66
M-Audio Omni Studio
M-Audio Studiophile SP-5B speakers
dual monitors
Antec case & PS
hp scanjet 3300c
hp discwriter 16
generic dvd rom

managed to do the whole thing for significantly under a grand. it ROCKS. windows XP has not required any reinstalls, system recoveries, no crashes or anything. it's beautiful.

2) gateway solo 2750 laptop

it SUCKS. 400mhz celery, 160mb ram. winxp. never crashes or anything but it's slow as hell.

damn all of your are lucky. I have no computer. I sneak on my roommates computer whenever he isn't on and use the university computer whenever I am doing a project. I am a bum. When I am at my parents house I have three computers to pick from. But I should have my brothers old computer in a couple of weeks for about $200 bucks.

bill, no way am i gonna spend money on my old PC. those cases in your links cost a ton of $$$. and my plan is to wrap up my old pc, monitor and everything and store it. then in like 10 yrs, turn it on and laugh at the patheticness of it. then in another 10-15 years, itll become a classic and i can sell it to get rich. :boink:

Still have my trusty old laptop from 5 years ago. I bought when I started college and I am still in college. Sucks.

I upgraded her internals (Processor, Hard Drive, etc), but it still does not matter since she is still slow compared to most your computers. However I still have the pride knowing that I was able to upgrade a laptop.

Work: Dell PIII 733

Home: Built it myself 6 years ago. 400 PII, although I just took it apart and built my parent a comp out of its parts since they were still using my very first computer I bought, a overclocked 133mhz pentium with a huge 1.2 gig HD.

So now I use my works laptop, which is a 800mhz or something Toshiba.

So now I am going to build a new computer. Just need a motherboard and processor off Ebay and Im set.

haha, that is damn funny.

but to set the record straight, mac OSX 10.1 or better will never crash, it is even set up so that if the finder crashes, you can keep all your applications up and running while it restarts itself. There was only one time when I even got it to lock up, that was when I had 7 applications(including photoshop) running on 128MB of RAM.

I have used many operating systems, and Mac OS is just better for me, the only downside is software support.

i used to hate macs, until i started my support job, where i have to know how to fix macs as well as pc's.

and now i want an ibook REALLY badly. OSX is a pretty serious bit of software - if they made it for the PC i'd dump winxp completely.

Odds are, you can't do too much, you bought an HP. Sorry to say, HPs REALLY suck... good servers, good enterprise equipment, HORRIBLE home user systems. HP is notorious for making snail speed systems that can't breathe... much like a stock airbox on your car, HPs are so crammed with poorly designed, oversized components and tiny "stylish" cases, they the ALWAYS test poorly. A quick search for your model yielded less than a page of results on google... not a good sign.

What are it's stats?

i got 2 questions though for all you tech heads hehe
1) what is this RAID setup with the hard drives? ive heard it before, i know its expensive, but i havent read into it yet.

2)will dx8 cards of today (geforce4 and below) work with dx9 games of tomorrow like doom3?? cuz if it doesnt, then doesnt it suck for those who bought ti4600s?

thanks.

$600 dollar pos? Hmm funny.... My computer cost me $600 (w/o monitor and sound blaster) and i'm pretty proud of it:

2.4gig PIV
1gig ram
GeForce4 Ti 4200
Intel D875PBZL MB (best one they make)

Once my dad decides to upgrade his, i'll sell him my 2.4 and get myself a 2.6 p4 so i could unleash that 800mhz bus speed finally :D
