I would run 235/40's all around. Saves a ton of money b/c your tires will last longer with a proper rotation. Plus you won't loose the balance of the car. Maybe even 225 all around to keep turn in real responsive.
Or if you don't mind being off about 2.5 mph at 60, then 235/45 Kumho MX's are only $121 at tirerack.

what i'd worry about is how a 255 would sit on a 17x8.5" wheel, but don't the mustang guys run 265's on 17x9's??

sorry about semi-jacking this post. sweet wheels by the way:D . anyway, is there like a table or scale on how much your speedo will be thrown off depending on the wheel/tire size? thanks.

In the FAQ there is a site linked up with a correction calculator. The thread is called "read this before buying new wheels" or something.

255 will fit slightly bulged.. I have some 17x9 and 17x8 with 205 series tires on both.. as stretched as they are, I figure 225 would sit flush on the rim on the 8, and 245 on the 9.. so go from there.
Besides, contact patch is determined by tire pressure more than tire size. If it's too squirly, decrease the rear tire pressure as needed.
I'm speculating though, as I haven't driven a 400hp KAT.. lol. your probably right. 255 would probably be a bit more appropriate. But I would run at least a 235 up front to keep from completely destroying the cars turn-in characteristics.

I would do 235 or 245 all arround. Staggering sizes, especially when the front would be more stretched than the rear could make things a little unpredictable. Then again, its really a matter of personal preference, and the wider rear would have its advantages.

I have 255s on my 18x8.5s in the rear and they look perfect. No bulging at all.

what model tire? Some tires are wider than others. got pics? your impression of perfect may be my bulged.. too many opinion related topics. lol technically speaking 8.5 inches = 215.9 millimeters.. it should buldge.

The tires are Toyo T1-S's and you're right, it is a matter of opinion, but I doubt anyone would consider my tires to be bulging. Unfortunately I don't have pics yet, but I should have pics of everything including the rims/tires sometime next week.

An 8.5" rim is 8.5" from inside bead to inside bead. If you actually measure across the wheel, outside to outside, it's roughly a 9.5" wheel in overall width.

9.5 inch = 241.3 millimeter - should still buldge slightly..
Does a 245 fit in the front of an s14?

Before i bought my GTR wheels, Mark had 245/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza RE010's on them on his white S14. no bulge, no streatch. But that was on a 17x9 +30. I say 245 would fit in the front on 8.5 +30.

What's up Dorifto? I dunno if u remember me but aaron introduced me to you at DD5. I was the kid with the really curly crazy hair. anyways I definately don't suggest going under 235 in the rear with that much power. Unless you are running drag radials or something but you aren't.

Does the wheel in this pic has a +30 offset? I really like the spokes design that going into the center of the wheel...like that one in the picture. I always see hondas with te37's and all of their spokes are flat due to their high offsets. (that's ugly i think)
Like this one:

That's almost what I'm gonna run on my 17x9's.... but 235 all around (would run 225's up front but the ones I have aren't as good... like Pirelli P7000's compared to Goodyear F1's). But.... my car is geared more towards turning.... boosteds14's car seems to be geared more towards driving in a straight line and all out power (at least, that's what I understand his car to be for). So... 255's or as wide as possible would be best.
My suggestion earlier was 265's, but I'm not sure if they'd fit on a 8.5" rim with a low profile....

:hammer: Hey, I go with 235/40/17 because your Non-Stock Speedmeter will read 0.8% slower than the speed you Travel at. So you your speedo read 60mph, but u going 60.5mph on WHeels
If you go with 235/45/17 its 4.6% slower when you read 60mph on Speedo so you would be going at 62.8mph on Wheels
if you get 225/40/17
0.5% Speedmeter is FASTER which you'll read 60mph, but your going 59.7mph on wheels
ANd for 225/45/17 your 3.1% Slower on Speeo. WHen u read 60mph your at 61.9mph on the Wheels
And here the Web U Calcalate your Wheels
-Put in the Stock TIre Sizing in then put the New one in So it can Average your Stock to the Aftermarket.
on my 240SX is 195/60/15 STOCK:axe:
