i had a problem and i fixed it but i was wondering if someone knew why the problem was fixed with what i did. what happened was i had just installed a oil catch can and i was getting alot of oil in it. 3 times driving would fill it up. and there was oil spatter that i didnt find where it was comming from for awhile. so i trouble shot the prob and found oil was comming up the oil dipstick guide and spitting on everything. so i replaced the old...kinda messed up...dipstick and that stopped everything. no more oil in the tank and no spatter. any reason you can think of how the oil can make it up the guide? and how would that cause all the oil to collect in the catch can? im happy i fixed it but i just dont understand how that would do it. thanks.

Blow by...crank case is getting pressurized by air coming around the pistons into the bottom end. Excessive blow by is a good sign that its time to start looking at a bottom end rebuild or another bottom end. Do a leak down test and see how bad it is.

yea...i thought i had a prob like that before but after replacing the oil dipstick i have not gotten any measurable blow by. before it was 3 days and i have to empty. now its been a week and it hasnt even reached the little tube on the can so i can see how much is inside. its great that it happened i just didnt understand how that was the solution.

ok...i want to do a leakdown test like was suggested. i was looking into it and it seems you need a air compressor to do one...i dont have one...anyone near 909 los angeles county have one i can borrow for a day? i know its a long shot but never know.

any competent import mechanic could preform that test for you. Its not likely to be a simple problem, check the oil, I'm sure it smells like gas and is all runny.

Ill have to check again for that. The last oil change I did smell for gas as just a routine thing I do and I didnt smell anything and the oil was runny but I put that up to the syn oil I was useing and it may have just seemed runny to me since before I replaced a bunch of parts I was useing thicker organic oil. Now I would think if something bad was wrong I would be getting poor gas mileage. Is that right? Reason I ask is because I was getting great mileage. 30MPG
