By the time i picked up my gf and got home i had NO power steering at all :/ I need some help here, did my power steering pump just crap out? is the rack f*****? whats the issue here? also, will it hurt my car to drive it like this?

you don't need power steering anyways, nah, you won't hurt the system as long as you bleed it and cap all lines.

and how would i acheive this? bleed it.... so i leav fluid in the lines, bleed the air, and then cap the lines?

you should not delete your ps. fluid is coming out from under the cap? check all of you lines and pump for leaks, refill the system and maybe you can make a better conclusion of what the problem is.

You don't really NEED PS but it is handy. Your car prolly steers like a tank at low speeds? I blew the PS pump in a cherokee this winter and it was a b!tch to steer so i got it fixed right off. Not sure on a 240 but it was cheap for the jeep. BTW hello all, I am a Zilvia newb but I frequent the *OTHER* popular Nissan forum quite a bit.

i figured it out, the seal in my power sttering pump went, and it was sucking air and blowing it into my resevoir pushing my fluid out the cap. I took the pump apart and the bearing is ****ED bad, and the seal was hosed to. So im going to buy a new bearing and seal and replace them.

you can get a used pump for dirt cheap. was it the banjo fitting on the top of pump or the return line that was leaking? it should have 2 copper washers one on each side for the banjo. make sure all of you lines are in good shape

yea the lines are good, the seal at the front was leaking so it ewaas coming out the front and then driping onto the belt which then distributed it all over my engine compartment. Im going to a bearing and seal place tommorow and getting a new bearing and seal, i figure this would be better then getting a used, cause it will have a brand new seal and bearing, the shaft and all other parts are in good shape.
