Check this out, Its the 1985 Nissan Mid4 concept. It was mid engined and 4 wheel drive, and as you can see alot of the styling ques made their way into the styling of the 89-90 240sx

whoa the front of the silver car looks almost identical to the MR2. The red one in the links looks like a s13 mixed with a Z31 mixed with an old testerossa.

So... What happened to that mid engine

They gave up on building a mid engined car, but the other tech from the Mid4 found its way into production.

The AWD system went to the Skyline GT-R. The engine went to the 300ZX-TT.

the taillights also seem to resemble the s14's, in contour and lines, but a bit smaller

ya I remember when th red Mid4 one was on the cover of Car and Driver back in 85. Rumor has it the red one never went into production for two reasons. One it would have been a 60 thousand dollar Japanese supercar, before Japan had really marketed any supers.
I.E. the Skyline had not come into its own realm as a Super Car yet and the NSX was several years off and even when the NSX first came out it was a failure . You could get a used NSX in 92 for like 25k hahahhaha try that now.
The other reason was Ferrari threatened to sue because the body design was just to damn close to several current Ferraris of the day. Now remember these were the rumors. Though the 60k thing makes a lot of sense. I do not know about the Ferrari thing but at that time Ferrari was quite sue happy .
In fact they sued the pants off a kit car manufacturer out of Ari ona that was building replicas of 62 250 GTO's based on early Datsun 240's and 260's complete with badging. hahahhahaha

A supercar with the Skyline GT-R's AWD system and a mid mounted VG30DETT producting over 400hp doesn't interest you? It's a "Toyota knockoff" in what way, exactly?

looks although it looks like a MKII mr2, the mr2 wasn't even out, the 1st gens were out and don't really look like that.

its more of a ferarri knockoff, toyota used the design if anything.

yes well Japanese car companies have a habit of knocking each other off.
Thing mr toyota look alike should think about though.
Mid4 was pre NSX and pre Sw20 MR2 which translates out to Honda and Toyota knocking off Nissan who Knocked off Ferrari hahahhahahhahahha.
he's got it all backwards:aw:  :bash:

I like the car. The car does look a lot like a bunch of different cars. But who ripped off who?

1988 and the car still look pretty modern, thats crazy. Nissan has always been very inovative in making timeless designs. there arent many cars like that (NSX, 240 hatch, FD RX-7, etc.).

some people might not agree with the 240 hatch as being timeless, but the car sold for 10 years in japan, looking much the same.

pop-up lights own.

I just wanted to say that if anyone has Sega GT for the X-box, this car is available to drive in it. It looks more like the 1st set of pics, not the silver one. Maybe they threw it in there because there's no Silvia available? :D
