I see a lot of threads being locked in the for sale forum. I also just bumped one of mine and realize that it'll most likely get locked as a result. :duh: And this got me thinking.

Another forum I visit has a for-sale section that doesn't send topics with new posts to the top of the forum. Basically, a seller makes a thread and it'll keep getting knocked down even when replies are added. The newer the thread, the higher up it is. Obviously, if the item has not sold, it can not be re-listed every day like on craigslist. I feel that makes a little more sense than this bumping nonsense we have going on. On that forum, when someone is looking for something particular, they simply search the for sale forum. They also allow users to lock their own threads once the item has sold so they are no longer bothered with questions or PMs. The system seems to work well and the for-sale section there moves almost equally as fast as the one here on Zilvia.

Just bringing it up as an alternative to having a full-time for-sale moderator locking threads left and right.

Your thoughts?

That is actually EXACTLY how the vendors section is set up right now.

We MAY covert the standard marketplace ares to this format as well in the future. Time will tell. However, we would have to impose a limit to the number of threads able to be active by any member at one time, just like the vendors have it now. That way you don't have one guy with 15 threads at the top of the marketplace, taking up all the new spots.

There will always be a need for a Moderator in the Marketplace. It is an unfortunate fact that members cannot be left unattended without things getting out of hand. :(

Thank you for your suggestion.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Thank you for listening  See, I can do something more productive than making silly Sil80 threads in the chat forum. :hahano: jk!

Agreed on the need for a forum moderator in the for sale section at all times. The place seems like it breeds drama.

Agreed also on limiting the number of active threads any given member can have in the for sale forum as well. I think 5 is a reasonable limit. No idea how hard or easy this is to accomplish using vBulletin. Or if it's even possible.

Don't sweat the past Chernobyl. I don't hold (many) grudges. :D

You had a valid suggestion, and I hoped to clarify some things.

See, I am more than a Thread locking, fun ruining asshole. :hahano: JayKay!!
