View Full Version : Sr20 meth injection

Ive been searching around but haven't found a thread or an article that answers my questions. I was told that if I run water/meth in my sr20 that I should see anywhere from a 20-50hp gain. Now with the questions...
Is that right?
Can the solution be bought mixed? Heard it was pretty much washer fluid.
How does it actually gain power? Cooling right?
How long will a gallon last?
Parts list if it matters:
Sr20 @ 8 psi or 12 psi if I close off the W/G line.
1.5mm HGm, Cosworth
ARP studs
Fmic
Walbro F/pump. I dont think the others matter.

----Meth/H2O injection will not gain you any power. In fact, you can actually loose power from it, if you don't tune for it. Methanol and Water injection cool the intake charge a bit through evaporation. This causes the fuel to ignite a bit slower. So it will in a sense retard the flame, and you will loose power if all you do is add methanol or water injection.
----However, to caveat on that. What Meth/Water injection will allow you to do is run higher boost and/or more spark advance. It is almost like having higher octane fuel.
---To answer how long it will last is like asking how long will NOS last or even how long will my car drive before it runs out of gas. It all depends on how much you have. An extra gallon of meth/water will probably last a while, because you only need to use it while on full boost. There is an article on autospeed Browser Warning (http://autospeed.com/cms/A_107970/article.html) that shows you how to do it on the cheap.
As some advice for the future. I would caution against asking for advice here without putting a little bit of effort into searching. Some people on here are merciless with the "search noob" button...lol

Yeah I figured that there is some info around but I couldnt find it. I did however find a bunch of install "how-to's".

Wow dont know what to make of this post.....while the part about higher boost/spark advance is true it really only applies if you where just injecting water. And if anything it helps to keep the flame front a tad bit cooler and or give the cylinder walls a nice cleaning...
When you add meth without the extra tuning (which btw isnt ever recommended due in part to the "WHAT IF" of a failure in the water injection system) it will actually give a tad bit more horsepower because methanol is a gas....and in this scenario you will gain some power from just the extra octane coming from this extra injector basically....btw i dont recommend tuning your car with water injection on....if some part of your system fails you can blow your engine...even though there are many fail-safes these days its still a gamble...
Also from experiance just DD my car i had a 5 gallon tank that never went below a half a tank over a month period..mostly because i kept my car off boost....

...well prob can get more power, just the fact if done correctly you should see much lower detention in the combustion cambers and a cooler clean running motor hence why you can run higher boost and/or more spark advance, anyways its not a bad idea to run if you got the $$$ i see it as a fail safe upgrade more then a power upgrade the AEM kit is an ok one but if you want an awesome water/meth kit go for an aquamist setup!

I dont agree with most of this, as I agree more with the post you quoted.
Methanol is not a gas, its a fuel, and injecting it will increase octane which will lower your power UNLESS your tuning was already wrong and asking for too much, then you will see a gain. It will also richen up your mixture which should yield you a loss unless once again your already tuned wrong.
Saying you should never tune for it is a very dumb thing to say. The what if the system fails is a cop out too. What if your radiator fails? What if your boost controller fails? What if one of your injectors fails half open? What if your timing jumps a few degrees forward?
There are all kinds of things that can cause destruction with your engine and that is one of the things you deal with when trying to make good amounts of power out of our small jap engines. With the way of thinking you posted we should all just run very very large v8 engines that are not very precise, not tuned to max potential, but you can suffer a few problems and still have a safe large amount of power. This is what they did 40 years ago, and some still do today.

Water/Meth injection is a great way to make reliable power.
When injected through an atomizing nozzle it starts to vaporize. While vaporizing it reduces ambient temperatures by as much as 80-90 degrees F. This creates a very dense charge enabling more fuel and ignition timing.
You shouldn't run water/meth if you are at levels of say 15 psi or lower as the result will net you nothing really. But when you are boosting 20+ psi water/meth are a great way of increasing your horsepower by 15-20% on smaller engines.
There are a number of products that offer fail safes to prevent detonation. AEM offers a kit that pretty much does it all.
Also, this is known as Anti-Detonation Injection.
Not really used to make power but used to stabilize power.

Avoid it unless you absolutely need to make the additional power on pump gas.
no sense in adding additional parts to fail to any setup, unless, you absolutely need to.
and by additional power I mean you want to spin only 7K RPM and you want to push 27PSI on a slightly modded SR20 for 500WHP on 93 octane kind of power.

You can take all the stabs you want, this subject is clearly over your head. How many cars have you tuned again? I have tuned many cars, on different grades of gas, race gas, av gas, e85, meth injection, as well as other power adders and spray, hell, even diesel trucks too with different alternative fuels and additives in the fuel to test the results on a dyno dynamics. What I said is on point and all you are doing is bringing up an old thread to show your lack of comprehension.
I have gone through 5 laptops tuning and around 8 lambida sensors. It seems like you just enjoy lowering VWs and talking shit. What are your credintials otherwise?
