Hey guys,

I plan on getting my entire car painted in either april or may but as it stands I have 2 bumpers and a fender I want to paint to match the rest of my car. Does anyone know where I can get OEM paint in a higher quantity then a touch up thingy. In case it matters I have a blue zenki, its the blue/green looking one (fairly certain there is only one blue for zenki's.

Thanks

Do you want OEM paint or do you want to colour-match to OEM paint?

You can get OEM paint at the dealer but colour-matching needs to be done when the paint is mixed and applied. They may also have to repaint other body panels to blend.

You need to talk to a body shop if you want to do colour-matching.

I want to paint 2 bumpers and a fender in OEM color right now, then in 4-5 months I want to have the car professionally painted and have body work done.

Well if you are only going to paint the bumpers and fenders now, and then in a few months get the whole car repainted i say just get the closest spray paint or touch up paint, and just do all the sanding to make it look legit for now.

Its temporary bro... wouldn't waste the time or money looking for the exact OEM paint if you are just going to get it resprayed not to far along.

yeah your probably right I just hate my car looking ghetto lol. I'm going to start prepping the bumpers this weekend and probably just spray all the stuff some sort of blue and call it done, half painting is the prep anyway

You still didn't answer my question. Do you want to buy paint from the factory, or do you want to colour-match the bumpers and fender to what you have on the car right now?

The factory sources paint from vendor, but aftermarket companies also makes paint to match OEM colours.

What do you want?

Ah I thought i answered it in the post but I wasn't clear enough. Right now I would probably do match but when I get the car painted for real I want to take the entire car back to factory color. But I already decided I'm just going to prep these 3 pieces and paint them a color close enough till I can get enough together to get all the body and paintwork done on my car

just get a shop to mix u up some paint. ur wasting your money if ur gonna have the whole thing resprayed in a little bit. almost every bodyshop doesnt blend bumpers, so it wont be a perfect match. but it will be close enough. paint is paint. oem is a waste of money also. ppg and dupont is better quality and if you go to a reputable shop it is a lifetime warranty as long as you own the car so you will not have to worry about fading.

listen to me if you want, i only work at a bodyshop.

No, you were not clear at all.

Since you sound helpless I'll try my best to help you. Read carefully.

You asked:

"OEM paint" can mean:

a) paint you buy from the dealer, or
b) paint that matches your car.

Keep in mind that one has nothing to do with the other.

For example, most "OEM paint" that you buy from the dealer is crap. They're low quality stuff that don't even match what comes off the assembly line.

Most of the time these "OEM paint" is just rebadged aftermarket brands.

If you want something that matches your car, you need a very very good body shop to prep and mix the paint for you. Matching has less to do with the actual paint composition itself. Instead, the amount of prep and mixing the paint is very important.

Also keep in mind that paint fades over time and for an older car a fresh OEM colour will not look the same as faded panels.

What a good body shop would typically do is they'll either 1) add a weather-fade to the new panel, 2) retouch some of the adjacent panels, or 3) some combination of both.

Keep in mind that paint is more magic than science and the skill of the painter matters a lot more than what's being used.

There are a lot of good aftermarket paint systems that will do a good job of matching the factory paint, like Dupont or PPG. In fact, these guys supply the same stuff to some car manufacturers.

This is all true.
