Lowering kit advice needed!

I'm new to this forum so i have a few questions id like to post to see what kind of advice i get...

Alright to start off, i have a 1996 240sx with 17x9 fronts and 17x9.5 back Rota p45r's. The rest of the car is bone stock! so I want to put a lowering springs on the car but i have a few questions and things that i could use some advice on. first off, i am wondering that if my 17x9's in the front would be to large to put a lowering kit on? I don't want any rubbing and im worried about my streetability. Then , i would like any suggestions on lowering kit springs yall may have. any good/experiences .

If there is rub, just fender roll/pull.

If wire are rubbing on the driver fender, then tuck those in.

I'd say slant the wheels (forgot if that's camber or toe), but you are on stock suspension.

And for what to get, it depends on your budget and what you're looking for. Just DD slammed status or plan to be a lil aggressive or track any time soon?

I have Megan springs on my dd and wheel are petty much the same set up am running 235/40/18 and 245/40/18 in the rear and I don't rub and the spring i have give me a 1.7in drop and I still have room to mess with...so I'll be fine

should be fine with your app. i would get some used springs (i had some eibachs). you wouldn't rub at all. anything lower than 2" i would recommend arms (toe arms, rucas, tie-rods, tension-rods).

here's my old set-up with eibach sportlines and tokico blue shocks with im assuming 16x8 0 offset long champs(when my friend owned it)

Don't waste Money on springs unless they are dirt cheap.Lowering springs suck

Staggered wheels are pointless. Especially if you plan on keeping the tires rotated.

and i do agree coilovers > shock and springs.

Aftermarket springs on old 14-15 year old shocks are gonna be dumb...you'll end up blowing the shocks. You might as well buy some coilovers.

^^^ i agree. i have always been a fan of stance coils btw. they aren't really bumpy just a clean smooth ride and stiff as hell over teins or any other coils they are really bumpy and not as stiff. pm me for some more info/advice. whats the offsets on the wheels and how low do you want to go? if it does rub you should either roll/pull or get overs depending on how much room you have. also whats your budget because lowering springs feel really shitty and bounce all over while driving unless you get some aftermarket struts too. your best bet is coils bro. pm me tho for more info!

well i def cant go out for anything close to 700 for coilovers so it seems like ima have to settle for springs. i have 235/45/17 and 245/45/27 and either 25 or 30 offset. how much ride will i sacrifice by settling? and wat other problms will i run in to. after installing my wheels i noticed a big height dif. so i want atleast 1 in the front and 1.5 in the back. thats all i really think i could fit

Nissan shocks of the era don't have a lot of travel. 1.5" or greater drop and you'll be riding the bump stops. Shocks don't last long ether.

Calculate the cost of good springs AND shocks. Stock shocks won't last a month.

Your either stubborn or stupid...I just told you what will happen if you decide to put aftermarket springs on old raggedy stock shocks. Itll drop 1-1.5 inch for what? So itll ride like your jumping on a fucking trampoline and make it damn near undrivable on the freeway cuz itll be all over the place. Wouldnt take much to for it to cause you to loose control and hit somebody.

I'm not saying this to be a fucking dick, I'm telling you this because alot of us has done this shit back in the days when there wasnt anything parts wise. I slapped Eibach springs on stock 1997 S14 kouki back in 2000. Mind you, that shit was 4 years old. Shock were fucking blown all around in a matter of 2 weeks. Stock shocks just cant keep up with the springs.

i had lowering springs. then i got coilover and my life has changed for the better. lol. as soon as i got done putting them in i went for a drive. all i did was laugh because my car was a totaly better car. i love the feel of coilovers. i got megan coilover 8kg front 6kg rear. love them. trust me save you money and get real suspension

I'm not knocking on lowering springs...thats if its done right. Certain combinations of lowering springs and proper aftermarket shocks will blow away most entry level coilovers. Hell, a set of ground control adjustable springs mated to a set of Koni Yellow shocks will out handle almost all sub $1k coilovers.

Well, you make a wise choice for performance.

I think too many people ignored your idea of this being a daily driver though, and just put in a performance response.

For a DD car, you may be better suited for a less aggressive spring/strut combo. It will cost you near coilover price, but you may save a little bit. That being said, if you wish to pursue coilovers (which I myself would also recommend), there are a few good streetable ones many (I included) would suggest.

People will just tell you to get what they have, but...

If you are intent on getting coilovers as cheap as you can - You are looking at basic level K-Sports, Megans, Tein Basics, and entry level Tanabe's.

Though they get bashed plenty on here, K-Sport and Megan are probably the cheapest and friendliest riders of the bunch for a Daily Driver only.

If you would like to save up a tad bit more and go for something better -

I would recommend D-Max, Stance, Powered By Max, etc.

Out of that list, D-Max rides the smoothest, as most people will tell you. They are arguably the most street comfortable coilovers you will find for ~$1,000.

Stance has been around for a while and many people have them. Good customer support. Not as comfy as D-Max, and usually cost a tad bit more.

Powered By Max coilovers are very stiff. If you do not plan on persuing a motorsport, I don't know if these would fit your style. If you do plan on pursuing a motorsport, these are pretty proven and beefy. They also go for around ~$1,000.

Fortune Auto is around the same price, people that own them love them, no real negative reviews yet.

* In my opinion, from seeing your budget and wants, and also seeing what you planned to do with your 240sx which seems to be just a sporty daily driver, I think K-Sports or Megans would fit you well. They are very cheap, and since dampening and performance specs will not matter to you as much for a DD car, they will both serve your want to go lower without a harsh ride or wallet hit. K-Sports go pretty low, by the way, I am not as sure about Megans.

I would personally wait up and get D-Max coilovers. I understand your impatience though, and also I understand finances at the moment. D-Max is comfy though, and are very well made.

Stance or Fortune would probably pull up second for streetability here. If you do not want D-Max, then for the same money fortune will give you a decent ride. If you would to get stance, maybe save up a bit more and pursue Stance.
