View Full Version : How to Get a Formula D License

I would like to clarify this for myself and others.

How do you obtain a Formula D license?

I know last year Just Drift top finishers were awarded with licenses, and top six I believe got invitations to the Pro Am Nationals.

Is Just Drift going to be a feeder this year as well? Are there other series on the West Cost that do this?

Can you just sign up for a Pro Am event given that your car is within spec? And by placing well in a Pro Am event do you get an invite to the Pro Am National where winners are awarded licenses?

The Formula D website has not updated any information yet for 2010. Is there a good source to find out more about licensing and Pro Am event info.

Thanks

Hey riley, cant you get a license from JUST DRIFT events also??

Last year Just Drift gave out 3 license to the top 3 point holders for the series for the year. I think they might be doing it again this year. Top 8 got ProAm invites. I will be doing the whole series this year trying to get my license.

Top drift round 1 conflicts with XDC round 1 just a FYI!

Just to clarify things there.

In 2009, Just Drift gave out the top 3 of Just Drift Top Drift series Formula D licenses. But since there was a tie for first place Just Drift gave out 4 licenses to Miki and Bomac who tied for first, 2nd was Luke, and their was Matt Fields and 5-12 places got invites to Pro Am Nationals in Irwindale.

In 2010, Just Drift will be giving out top 3 of Just Drift Top Drift series Formula D licenses. So places 4-11 place will get invites to Pro Am Nationals.

Now the licenses that were given and will be given are not probational licenses, but full licenses for the whole FD year.

Hopefully this will clarify things for those who plan on running JD Top Drift.

For those who are located in the So Cal area wanting their FD licenses I highly recommend using Top Drift as a way to obtain your FD licenses for these reasons.

-highly qualified drivers who compete at a higher level
-Formula D drivers are judges of the series such as Taka Aono, Hiro Sumida, Justin Pawlek, Henry Schelly, and other FD drivers as guest judges.
-Long standing relationships with Formula D
-A lot of Formula D drivers are former competitors of Just Drift Top Drift
-Great experience at a higher level to get you ready for the mental and physical preparations needed at Formula D competition levels.
-Great support from Just Drift, staff, and drivers of the event and TP series

Schedule for the Just Drift clinics and Top Drift Series can be found here.

Also Just Drift clinics are great for those who are new, intermediate, and advance to come out to for practices. We have a staff of instructors who are ready to help those wanting to get started in drifting or just want to step better their skills in drifting.

Hope this helps you guys out

Top drift is the deal. Do it. Driving a competitive series with Tandem will give you the practice you need to compete in other series.

Brian and Jack are 100% correct.
Just Drift is the way to FD.
Obviously hit all the evnts you can afford, but for competition and all the best drivers in the area, its Just Drift.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Just Drift appears to be a pretty clear cut option. I did a comp. with them last year (round4) and it was top notch!

How about XDC? Does anyone know how many licenses, how many events you must do to receive a license at XDC? This series may be split into regions since they have events across the nation.

How about for those who cannot make it through the whole series (stuff happens).

Are there individual events that you can earn a invite to the Pro Am nationals?

last year there was "one off" events that get you proam invites. but fd said they're going to stay away from that this year and not going to do "one off" qualifiers. but like you said "shi.. err i mean stuff" happens. so i don't know if they're going to stick with that decision or not. i guess we won't know until it happens.

Well then what the fuck is on the east coast. damn. lol

the best option you got is to drive clubloose to get your name out there and compete in the XDC events close to you.

after that you'll have the make the trek to the west coast to hang out with all the kids in board shorts, sandals, and flipped up brim hats at the pro am nationals or whatever they decide to do this year.
