So I pulled my 98 KA24DE out to sell to my friend. The car was in a accident and the radiator was cracked. I drove him home and it started over heated on the way home, only afew miles. So I stopped and let it cool down and drove it again the rest of the way and parked it in the garage.
Then I turned it on and stuck a hose in the already cracked radiator and ran it for awhile to make sure everything was ok. That it didnt idle weird or anything and drove it around the block afew times. Everything was fine. No knocks. Oil level was good and just did spark plugs 3k prior and it has less than 85k on it. A well maintained motor.
So pull it and sell it to my friend. He puts it in and it sounded find when it started up. Then it started making a knocking sound he says. And he pulled the plugs and found that cylinder 3's spark plug was getting hit by the piston. It bent the tip up and he could see marks on the piston. He changed the spark plug on cylinder 3 again and it bent it again. He thinks it's a rod knock.
I have his money and will refund it to him just curious if it's a rod knock or if the head is warped from the overheating. I don't think it would be a rod knock because it just overheated and it ran fine prior to pulling it.
Any info helps thanks
