hey everyone I was in helminski, ukraine two days ago and I saw one of the old box style 4 door skyline gt-r's serving car for hire duty on the street. It looked pretty beat as in many door dings but the paint was good and the interior had no rips or tears. I was excited to see such a car, but dismayed to find it in the hands of a taxi driver in eastern europe.
:-(
anyway I thought everyone might find that little tidbit interesting. also, a greater injustice, my girlfriend, reacting to my convulsions upon sighting it, said "so, its just a car."

Sounds like someone needs a new girlfriend...
Mine grabs the steering wheel when my head flys back due to a Ferrari or Lambo sighting, and drives for me. Train yours :D

I have seen a couple of the old GT-Rs. They are amazing looking cars. The cars that I saw were in perfect condition at a car show. My friend has digi pics... I'll see if I can get them on here.

ya I saw 2 4 door R32s in Zimbabwe, I was very surprised and quite confused. I was never expecting skylines over there, and I saw the tails and thought it was something else till we caught up to it, very sexy. Also saw an R32 coupe, and I swear I saw an S14, but some car over there looks exactly like it, anyone from europ might know what it is, I think its a toyota :confused:
Sorry to sorta jack your thread.

Toyota Curren's look a lot like Silvias. I would mind having one if I didn't like Silvias so much.

A little off the topic of the thread, but Lexus makes this car (forgot the number cause I dont keep up with lexus) that looks alot like a s14. I have to double look sometimes. If someone swapped the headlights and taillights, it would look almost identical to a s14.

Toyota Soarer/Lexus SC300/400.

Big *** muscle luxury coupe. Available in Japan with twin turbos. The V8 option we get in the US is cool though.

Have to return to the US alot sooner than expected. Navy has changed the music mid game and left me potentially without a seat.

Too expensive to bring the 180SX...so I might buy a 1971 Skyline GTR. The first GTR. Called a Hokosuka (box)

http://page3.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c37887821

It's over 25 years old and shares the same engine as the 280Z's :)

Can we say L28 bored up. Carb Turbo :)

Still going to miss the 180SX....if I have to leave what has been home since 1993. Not interested in living in USA...did that for 20 years already.

Hey andrave, what were you doing in Ukraine? Funny, I'm leaving for Belarus in 2 days. Ah yes, Ziliva.net... a true worldwide community, we even have eastern europe covered! I'll take some pics if I see any interesting Nissans there, but I doubt that will happen.

They are:confused: I thought they were called Soarers over there?

I love the Soarer, luxury looks, with the heart of a sports god.

Even the USDM version are great, love the soft rumble of the SC400 too.

If I had the money I would make a super duper sleeper Soarer, very uncommon. Although I know of one in my area, all stock exterior with Supra rims, but a single turbo (i think) 2JZ:eek:

My bust...for some reason when I read it I thought you said GS and not SC. You are correct about the SC's. The GS's are called Aristos...twin turbo...so nice.

Yep, that is a shame, hopefully someone will rescue it.

I do LOVE the new one though...Love to drive one..

The Ukraine is weak and febele. Why were you there? Personally...I love a good wide-body Starlett! :D

Ohh ohh...There's this blue 510 over at some Initech type place near my house. Looks pretty good and I'm gonna try and buy it. First time I've ever seen a 510 in our area...Or rather, Virginia.

Don't make me laugh. Do you actually think bringing a Hakosuka GT-R here is cheaper than getting a 180SX?
Check the price on a genuine Hakosuka GT-R...
I regularly see prices of about $40k-80k depending on condition or car number.
In contrast, a 180SX can be less than a tenth of that price.
The first GT-R was essentially a Skyline sedan with the R380 engine dropped right in.
A pure bred GT race car...good luck trying to maintain it in the states.
Also, the GT-R did not have the L28 engine; it had the legendary S20.
The original GT-R cost 1.5 million yen...and 0.5 million went into the cost of the engine alone.
Come on guy! S20 = 160hp & 8000rpm redline!
In an economy car like the Z, the S20 wasn't suitable.
However, the Z432 had the S20 engine, but those were very rare limited production cars and have a higher price than actual GT-R's!
(note: Z432 is a Fairlady w/ S20)
(for those who aren't familiar: 432 = 4 valve, 3 carb, 2 cam)
Final word, don't turbo the S20...PLEASE!!!

Aristos are the Lexus GS. If I'm not mistaken...They have the same engine as the Supra? I saw a real nice "Aristo" badged GS a few weeks goin to the movies. It was dropped w/some nice rims and a lip.

Not sure but think these have had the engine swap to the L28.
Which is what I would be trying to bring i (due to the 280z's sharing the engine)

This is the only reason I am looking at these cars. The first one said something about engine reforming, so I am almost positive that the owner swapped to the L28. Hell might get the car and just have a rebuild done with bore up to L32. The Z's I see running at the drags here in Yokohama run quite well.

http://page5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/e26712120

Like you said...the general price on an actual GTR with the original engine is up there....around the $20,000 to $40,000 price range....For that I would buy an R32 GTR, rebuild the engine, have it shipped and registered by Motorex.....and IF I could do that and be done with it...I would, BUT this route so far appears the most cost effective.

The 180SX is looking like I would have to bring it in to the US in pieces.....and would need to find a 240SX to drop everything into...and quite frankly 240SX's are way too expensive for the amount of miles on them.

I am sure you were talking about a normal Skyline such as the 2000GT.
You have to be sure to differentiate between the Skyline and the Skyline GT-R.
They are completely different cars. (i.e. 325i and M3)
It causes confusion in long time Nissan fans like me.
Even if you hate the Skyline, the best used Japanese cars you can buy are the ones from Motorex.

I'm over in Ukraine cause my girlfriend lives here. i met her in london.
I am spending the summer here.
I'm at her parent's house in odessa right now, its a port city on the black sea. because its such a major shipping city, foreign cars (japanese) are especially popular, and skyline gt-s and gt-s-t are a common sighting. gt-r's are slightly more rare but down on main street I see one every few days.
since the winters are bad here, the more popular performance cars are mostly AWD- 3000gt/gto, eclipses, a lot of WRX's (saw one of the new european WRX STI's in the new body style with their souped up 2.0 liter... can't wait to get home and see ours with the 2.5!).

anyway we stay in kiev or odessa usually. and thats why I'm here.

every time I see one of the skylines I wonder how much it would be to get a shipping container back to the northeast.
:-)

Aristo=GS 300/400. He's talking about the coupe (SC300/400), which is a Soarer.

Here's how it breaks down:

Lexus Toyota

GS = Aristo
SC = Soarer
RX = Harrier
LS = Celsior
ES = Windom
IS = Altezza
GX = Land Cruiser Prado (Euro-spec.)

Edit: Nevermind. This is what I get for replying before reading the entire thread... :hammer: on me, then.

oh and just so you know (to the guy wanting to import vintage jap cars) I have an issue of super street (I think, maybe import tuner) that I got in december, it was the issue with this year's calendar. In it, some guy has one of the old box style skyline's and he said he imported it himself through a loophole that allows older cars (pre emissions era) into the country legally. Might want to look into that.
