Anyone catch this trailer last night? I'm usually in the know on upcoming movies and this thing caught me by surprise. It's Denzel Washington in a post apocalyptic future (you guys know I'm a sucker for that) protecting some book. It looks sorta Mad Max-ish, which isn't a bad thing.

Looks very Fallout-like. Even the font is the same. Not saying that's a bad thing, as long as the movie is good.

Denzel hardly ever makes a bad movie. Which is why I have faith in it. He looks pretty bad ass in it too.

THought it was a pretty good trailer when I was at the movies last night. Seems to be a common angels and revelations theme going on. But I've never seen Denzel as an asskicker before so I'm stoked to see it.

The plot is almost the same as The Fifth Element. Guy protects something to save mankind. Looks entertaining, but the little fight scene in the shadows looked really slow. If he has a machete, I wanna see limbs flying! It's a maybe for me. Also, he looks like the Brazilian bad dudes from Modern Warfare 2.

This movie was amazing.
Those among us who live to crap on anything that even HINTS at religion will complain. This is a story of faith and application of said faith. I was amazed with this movie and would love to see it again, and will be buying a DVD on release date for sure.

It was alright, definitely entertaining.

A lot of the shots were exaggerated and they could have cut off a solid 20 minutes. After awhile walking in slow motion with ambient music (albeit cool ambient music) gets really boring.

great movie, a little too religious towards the end, but good god was mila kunis WAS HOT!

and as far as phlip's post, I do not live to shit on religion, how ever I have several legitimate issues with it in other aspects of life. I just had different expectations for the movie, but am perfectly content with what happened, what it was in relation to, and I respect the man's conviction, regardless of my differing beliefs.

I know that wasn't directed at me, I just felt compelled to respond.

Taking this as a "religion" thing will be the problem that people have.
"awww man, too much religion, why they gotta fuck up a good movie talkin' bout God?"
When looked at in proper context, it is a story of faith, a tenet upon which religion cannot claim mutual exclusivity. I hate that people will continue to miss the forest for the trees.

Antihero983
01-17-2010, 08:18 PM
Agreed.

Religious or not, you have to respect Eli's conviction and faith regardless of what happens.

that and you cant really complain about religion in it, because they show both sides of what religion can do, so it really isn't biased.

and thats coming from someone who has very deep rooted issues with religion mind you. I loved this movie, and I think if it were any different regardless of the overtones, it would've sucked.

Matej
01-17-2010, 09:19 PM
Hollywood loves to stick a deep religious undertone/conflict in every movie to make it more meaningful and controversial, and people will converse about it.

I don't think the movie's about religion. It's more about faith and the power faith has over people, it barely talked about religion at all.

i actually really liked this. the bad guy wanting a copy of the bible so he could control the people, that was great.
also, it seemed packed with homage and references to other movies. the A Boy and His Dog poster, obviously, but also when they're at the cannibals' house and the bad guys all roll up and he pulls the bullhorn was totally Road Warrior, and he keeps his Bible wrapped in a K-Mart shirt, which i took as a wink to the Evil Dead franchise. i'm betting there were more i didn't catch.

the ending kind of fell apart, though. they were too busy setting up "The Book of Mila Kunis" to seal the deal.

there was like, a full-on zoom on his eyes at the end, and they're all hazy like a blind person's eyes. pretty sure he was supposed to be blind for the entire movie.

a popular urban legend is that you go blind if you masturbate too much. did you think he meant that denzel washington was jerking off into his eyes for 30 years?
by the way, you should all be doing this until this movie is a couple weeks old.

i think the concept of faith overcoming great adversity/obstacles was a good idea but mila kunis is a terrible actress. that on top of denzel never having to reload during the pistol fight after shooting thirty other guys and the frequent slo mo zoom in of denzel's face turned me off from the movie =p

Carnegie identifies Eli's pistol as a "Sig" just before the shoot-out begins, however it is actually a Heckler and Koch .45.

The magazine capicity on that particular side arm is 10 rounds.

I do not recall exactly how many shots he fired during the street scene, but it definitely seemed like more than 10. You are correct. Not as bad as some movie guns, that's for certain.

also the last scene with mila kunis in army boots was pretty cheesy. the whole theater started to snicker when that happened
