View Full Version : My Car's Finally Done!!!

After more than 5 months of waiting and delays and problems, my S15 swap is finally up and running. Unfortunately, I'm in San Diego and the car is in San Francisco. It's going to the body shop tomorrow to get painted and by the time I get back to SF (Tuesday of next week) I should be able to go pick it up and finally drive it again. The moral of the story for anyone who wants to do an S15 swap is: expect it to take a lot longer than you expect it to take. Make sense? Good.

It's the six speed tranny. I hope it's solid since I've heard some bad stuff about it, but also lots of good stuff at the same time. I guess I'll just have to find out for myself.

I too have heard less than rave reviews of the s15 6 speed. But ****, conratulations on the swap, keep us up to date. I am very happy for you.
Were there problems with A/C compressor/hard lines? I heard there were some discrepancies regarding the A/C.

Thanks guys. Styles, As far as the A/C you're right that it's a trouble spot. Mine is actually not going to be operational when I get the car back and I'm gonna need to take it to an A/C specialty shop so they could make it all work. I'm told that it's do-able, but neither the guys doing the mechanical stuff nor the guys doing the wiring really knew exactly how to take care of it. But if you plan to do the swap and you have the S15 compressor and lines, an A/C shop should be able to get it working for you. The biggest positive thing I've heard about the 6-speed tranny was that our Nor Cal resident Nissan expert Ralph Kenyon told me that he has one on his 450+ hp S13 and that he loves it and has never had any problems with it. According to him the people who don't like those trannies are drifters because they're too close ratio. My 240 is a '95, and of course I couldn't resist doing the front end conversion at the same time :D On a side note for anyone that wants to have this swap done, make sure that you get the S15 instrument cluster with your clip or motor because according to the guys that did my wiring and have done S15s in the past, without the S15 cluster the variable valve timing doesn't work right. Sounds strange to me, but these guys aren't rookies and I tend to believe what they say.

hmmm.... interesting ? There have been several S14 SR kouki swaps done into S13's down here in socal and they have never had to use the instrument cluster to get the VVT to work. Ah well whatever works.
Oh yeah and yes they have had issues with the ac actually working as well. something along the lines of the S14 ECU not being able to see the turn on signal from the switch for the ac . They are currently working it out as I speak though.

From what I understand, the S15 ECU is nothing even remotely like the S13 or S14. This partly explains why it took me sooooo long to find someone who was qualified to actually do the wiring on it. No one was willing to even touch it until this one shop decided to do it for me. Even then, they had to fly their expert in from Las Vegas to San Francisco to do the job. Then there's the fact that you also need to use the S15 differential because the speed sensor is in it. All around, the whole car is just strange and different so I'm no longer surprised by anything weird that it does differently.

Are fine until you go for blood curdling power. The gears tend to be weaker.
IT WILL TAKE SOME GETTING USED TO.....to get the damn thing in to Reverse.....Your's should be even mpore of a bitch sitting on the left hand side and pushing like a bastard to get it to slide in to the position for Reverse.
It takes alot to get it in when you are on the right side. Buddy has an S15...and it is the ONLY thing I dislike about his car....other than it's not mine :)
Good luck with it...you should be happy with it
