View Full Version : Dad's impression of the SR.

HEHEHE! He had enough at 4500RPM in 2nd gear. Told me to cool it before I get some cop on my arse. This coming from an old muscle car guy, I'll take it as a compliment.

Anyways, the SR has proved it's worth today. I took it around to get a feel for it at highway speeds. Lets say it pulls in 5th for what my sunfire pulls in 3rd. It was refreshing to have cars move out of my way and to be able to pass without any problem. Unfortunatly (or fortunately) there were no ricers to toy with... Pics should be up by the end of the month.

i wish my dad was cooler with imports, he has been trying for years for me to join him in a nova project. im all set, its not my thing, however driving my stock s14 a few times to work is slowly changing his mind

my dad thinks i paid too much for my coilovers. i told him i paid 300 for my tein's and he thinks they suck cus the ride is so harsh (to him). Oh and on the instructions it says "for offroad use only" or "not for street use" something along those lines, and now he thinks its an illegal part for street use and i can be fined or something for it:rolleyes: whatever tho. my dad is pretty cool... so why did i change the subject to my dad?? sorry.. wanna know what my MOM thinks of my car? :p

Edit: oh yea and i'd never roll my eyes at my dad like how i put the smiley up there. haha i learned that a looong time ago.

haha, yeah an eye roll would get you a back hand in my house,

i intentionally block my dads car in the mornings so he has to take my car to work. seems to be working. he wants to put rims on my car!!!!! probably not what id go with but im working on that. im trying to play on the "bonding" aspect of it. its almost like "come on dad, we NEED a turbo"

my dad doesnt even change his own oil.... but that's what i've got my uncle for. his first car (in the US) was a 77 Camaro (which is currently not being used.... and it's something i'd like to work on :p). he pretty much helps me do anything i do to my car.... from suspension to engine. i let him test drive it every once in a while.... i think he's starting to realize i've got more power than his 6-series :p

My dad is "meh" when it comes to cars. He wonders why I put time and money (when I've really put little money) into an eleven year old car. . .

My mom on the otherhand freaking loves my car. She is only looking forward to June when I'm gone for basic camp and she gets my car :P

yea Saul, i dunno HOW i got my dad to let me have an S13 with no airbags and no ABS. I think the worst problem is how my dad doesn't understand why I want to invest so much money in my car. I don't have a problem with it because I don't plan on selling this car EVER. Do any of you guys still living with your parents have problems with your dad opening mail addressed to YOU? I hate that. Good thing I got to my bank statement because it stated $950 for coilovers  he'd be ****ed if he saw that! And I'm going to be ordering a catback exhaust so I better keep an eye out for the mail man.

my dad drives a Civic Si and when I got my car he took it for a rip.. He came home with a huge grin on his face... then once I traded him, I drove his car and he drove mine on the way home from this long road trip and we came to a set of lights.. and he starts revving the engine (of my car) and we drag raced. He killed me!!

(read, he beat his car with mine)

note that the Canadian Si is less powerful than the American Si (in canada, we have the SIR)

i live at home with my parents and im 22, its sad i know, but i work full time and go to college

my parents used to think my car audio obsession was ridiculousi fought them for many years about what i was doing, however, i have to agree with them on many points.

unfortunately, i have realized parents are right in most cases.
but my parents have become creatrive. they promised me they would match the downpayment i had saved by the end of summer, for a house or condo. knowing darn well i had over 2g saved towards the rb25 swap

im mad now, but im sure ill be happy in a few months when i buy my own home

Heh..my dad has good taste in cars. He's a Nissan fan, but his only problem is that he likes them stock. He started with a '81 Datsun 210, then a Nissan pickup, then a '93 Maxima SE. I crashed his Maxima after he gave it to me, and now I have a 95 S14. He never hesitates to tell me that his Maxima was faster than my S14, and he's right...for now:D As for my obsession with automobiles, my dad understands it cuz 2 of his brothers are in the auto field and I'm a mechanic. But that doesn't mean he's gonna jump the bandwagon. He doesn't like that fact that I'm planning on a SR swap that's looking to be 8k, but he's not stopping me. My dad is cool cuz he's undersanding, he's just not into what I'm into.

my dad helped me wit my sr swap...he doesnt like the idea of me spending money on my car but backs me up wit help and and admires wat i like doing. my friends were talking to my dad one day and asked him if he drove my car already. my dad said yea and told them i love the power of this car it hits 100 real quick. i was shocked to hear my dad say that. so yea i see the old school racer my dad was back in the day.

My dad has a supra, with twin 3037s.

And he always tell me SR20DET is too small and KA-T does not work, but does not support me in anyway to help me increase my hp!!

How I wish I had a more supportive dad..

haha..

my dad doesn't know crap about cars. he always takes it to the mechanic to get it serviced. he told me to just work on my brother's car when he ran out of oil. but he has started to ask me questions about cars recently, which feels good.yea Saul, i dunno HOW i got my dad to let me have an S13 with no airbags and no ABS. I think the worst problem is how my dad doesn't understand why I want to invest so much money in my car. I don't have a problem with it because I don't plan on selling this car EVER. Damn, I was half expecting to get flamed... Seems like this opened up a whole discussion! SWEET!

My dad had a 66 Plymouth Sport Satelite with 3x 2BBL carbs and a supercharger. He thinks sepnding this much money is ridiculas, but in the end he has fun watching me and can brag to the neighbors (when they aren't yelling at him because of my noise).

For everyones info I Graduate college on June 27th with a degree in Respiratory Care and work 30hrs/wk at other jobs to fund my projects. My parents only concern now is the mess in the garage and the oil stains in the driveway.

Yeah, I'm 19 and I still live with my parents too.I need to move out, but I drop all my money into my car. My dad helped me with the down payment on my car when I got it. Now he thinks he has the almighty say in what I can do to my car. I've been trying to convince him about an SR since the day I got my car. He's slowly coming around. Stuborn old man!

Nothing beats this guy Dan I know. His dad owns a body shop. So Danny buys this 82 Camaro Z28, no biggy, right? Then his dad pays for pretty much everything including new brakes, new rear, rebuilt tranny, does all his body work for him, custom flame job (looks good too), and all that stuff. I wish I had half the toys in his garage which include:

'55 Chevy Bel-Air
'57 Chevy Bel-Air
'68 Pontiac GTO
'69 Ford Mustang Mach 1
'70 Volvo racecar of some sort
70's Datsun 280ZX

And last I checked he was either getting a Porsche 911 or a 69 427 Corvette.

Hahahahahahaha...My mom was just like "so that's what you want? Okay" And I whipped out the cash. Airbags kill more people than they save lives. And ABS...I have none and it's no problem. Old people (parents) are just stuck on a few words that the car industries spit out and they make it seem like they should be standard on all cars. Man don't get me started w/all that "Posi-Trac" "4 Matic" bullsht though. Side curtain airbags??? WTF? Too many car companies are stuck on the safety thing. Just accept your fate and drive it like you stole it!

My dad used to race domestic 4 bangers, and owned and tuned a bunch of his own 8cylinders... he and his cousin were sponsored and drove some cars that... CARBED ran to 10k... lol. He is totally into my car, even from a distance.. he is cool with my brothers turbo 2 buildup that is coming too... he likes to pretend he's not interested when my mom is around, but when she leaves the room he has a lot of questions about 300+hp out of 2 and 1.3 liters respectively. Lol. He is amazed by the tech and knowledge we spit out.. saying he remember tuning carbs and such and that the computers we have in our cars are cooler than the one on his desk... but he wants to play with everything though :)

My parents, about a year ago, said, "We allow you six thousand dollars for a car," and I said "Cool." Please don't flame me for being spoiled or whatever, because who in the right mind turns down that kind of allowance for a car from their parents?

Anyway, I compiled this really extensive SR S13 swap checklist. I told my parents I wanted to build a car over the summer, you know, old Nissan, Japanese engine. Right there in the garage!

Mom said: Old = Unreliable, Unsafe. You sure you can do it?

Dad said: "Hahahahahaha. You can't do it."

They basically want to use that allowance to put as a downpayment on a new car. Coulda gotten a WRX for super-cheap, but parents said, "Wait a little longer." Then I came to UCR, and met some Nissan fans who want to go argue with my parents...hehe.

DO NOT BUY A NEW CAR! THEY ARE THE DEVIL!

Drive it off the lot, wow you just lost 5,000 on it's price.

Insurance = $$$$$

Only good thing is warranties but that means no mods.

No, stay away from new cars till you have lots of cash rolling in. Until then get a nice S14 or something that is reliable and nice looking.

Thank god my dad likes cars. As a kid I thought he was a genius because he always worked on his car, he never let anyone touch it. He's a BIG Volvo guy, he used to own a 240 for like 18 years, now he has a 850. When he first rode in my 240 and i took a couple quick corners he had a big a$$ grin on his face, I know he was impressed, and I only have some Sportlines on. I'm going turbo once i get enough money for a manifold and other small stuff, and he seems to be proud.

Ditto! I have owned one new car in my life. A 1979 Chevy Monte Carlo. I'll NEVER own another new one (unless I hit the lottery big..then who cares about a few thousand dollars)

When shopping for another used car try www.carmax.com. I used to work for Carmax. You won't find more consistently good used cars anywhere.
