ok this past week i started noticing that when i start my car, the tach wont work until i let the clutch out. im pretty sure thats not normal, cuz i havent noticed it before. then just a few minutes ago, i started her up, let clutch out, and the needle didnt even move. i tried revving, and nothing happened. so i back up out onto the street, and speedo didnt move either. then i parked her out on the street, and just as i was about to turn it off, tach needle finally goes up. WTF?!?!?! what should i do?

Have you checked all of your fuses, fusible links, and grounds yet?
If not, go away and don't come back until you've checked them.

well, did you check them? We need ro narrow down your problem, and the only way for that to happen is for you to do some footwork and some diagnosing of your own.

did you try tapping on the glass/plastic sheild over your tach? mine is sticky almost every time i start it up, but when i tap on it it starts working.

yeah man, the first night I got my car I took it out for a cruise and the speedo didn't work. I got so ****ed off. I figured a wire was loose so i reached under where all the wires are and just kinda waved my hand around, apparently i hit the right one cause it started working. I have to do something about that, but in a pinch try jiggling them around a bit it might work for you too.

im pretty much an noob at fixing cars, but i know even less when it comes to wiring and grounds, and such. i tried to do a search last night, but all the info i found assumed that the reader already knew the basics. i know i need a voltmeter/multimeter, which i dont have, and dont know how to use anyway, so im screwed. the gauges were fine today though, but im sure the condition will be back again.
anyone know if theres a good faq or how-to on grounds and wiring??

when i bought my car the odo showed 11000 kms
which meant it had been changed (the whole cluster)
and in the verification process before I bought the car, my mechanic at the nissan dealer said it was "fairly common" for the instrument cluster to "go"
havent had problems with it since
