Been a looker on Zilvia for a while, decided to register cause i need some help.
So i been wanting to install a VLSD on my S14, I finally got one but it's an ABS model diff and my car non ABS. I checked out several forums and got a lot of mixed messages from different sites. Well I got the diff to fit with a few adjustments.

I took off the dust cover off the trans and pushed the drive shaft forward. Now the shaft is a hair away from the rear of the trans. After installing I started the car no issue so far. Drove it home (did the work at my buddies house) and heard something rubbing but then it would stop. Got to the first stop light and when the car is nearing a complete stop the car started shaking and clunking. Then back to normal. It did this for about 2miles, then the car was totally fine. I got home and jacked up driver side to check if the shaft, diff and trans was fine. I found oil or grease in between the shaft and trans. So here my question:

Did i bust the oil seal on the trans by doing this? (probably a yes)
If i replaced the seal to stop the oil leak and left the shaft the way it is would it cause any issues?
How far can you actually move the shaft forward before it breaks something in the trans?
Any one in Socal 30 min away from West Covina got a s14 ABS drive shaft?

All you needed was the rear drive shaft piece from an ABS drive shaft and you would have been fine. Sounds like you sure messed something up.

How much does rear shaft run for? Any one near by got one laying around? Also what the length of the shaft?

Also smells like the car burning trans fluid (smells like Motul in the cabin)

something doesn't look right, you should have some clearance between that in and output shafts (about a half inch space, so it can move around)
that shaft tor up your seal
on my s13 ABS, I had to change the Drive Shaft. If you look at the ABS rear its longer, so u need a non ABS drive shaft. (upgrade to one piece aluminum, like $240)

ps: change your gear oil, i can see the metal in it from here.

Ok so i need a new seal. Do you think it fucked up the internal of the trans, just don't want to risk driving it back to the shop to work on it if will/did.

were can i get a one piece for that price all i see is 350 and above?

Whoa! they went up in price. (respectfully)

use Shaft Masters, great parts never had a problem, direct fitment.
call them up tell them what u did they will know what you need, ask for a lower price :D

I'm pretty sure you are going to damage any seal you put in the rear of the tranny, because that shaft is pushed way too far into the tail housing. I think by doing this you have altered the way the power flows the drivetrain, thus causing the vibration and shutter. I would think this is not a good thing for your trans.

There needs to be a gap in between your tail housing and the front shaft yoke, for rotation. Don't drive that until you replace that driveshaft, and now the seal, and oil too.

You need the the rear section of an S14 ABS driveshaft. I happen to have a full S14 ABS driveshaft sitting in my garage, I've upgraded to an Aluminum so I don't need it anymore.

You want it? 80 bucks plus shipping and it's yours. PM me.

don't worry, this isn't a big deal... the shavings are from the yoke base rubbing against the aluminum housing of the transmission. The noise you heard at low speed is the yoke binding against the aluminum as it smears it. Once you speed up is seems to go away. I bought an aluminum one piece for my car and it was doing the same thing; the guy made it with no slip room. I have since had mine shortened and was told a general recommendation for a slip yoke is 3/4"-1"; allowing enough room to remove the driveshaft. You have likely destroyed the yoke seal, , possibly from melting it, but it is easily replaceable. Either buy a 1 piece or get the ABS rear half as mentioned above. Replace that seal, the transmission is fine.
