I searched "vin means", "vin identification", and a few other keywords and I couldn't find anything on this.

Can you tell from the VIN if the car was a sohc or dohc on a 240sx hatch?

I have an 89 240sx hatch without a motor and I just bought a 90 240sx hatch with an SR20DET and it has the sohc cluster and I'm being told the speedo and tach isn't going to work unless I put the dohc cluster in it. So, I want to know if the cluster in the shell I have will work or not. Not sure what works and doesn't on the cluster in the car now as the car is being shipped to me. The seller told me the speedo and tach doesn't work. I'm sure lots of people on here know all about this.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Seriously? You're 27 years old and you don't know how to use Google?

Nissan VIN Decoding (http://www.nissanhelp.com/diy/common/nissan_vin.htm)

Took me less then a minute.

Plug your VIN in there, and celebrate quietly.

P.S. All 1989 and 1990 models to roll off the 240sx assembly line, were equipped with SOHC engines. Another fact you could have easily dug up.

Now that you have you information, I'm closing this Thread. :lockd:
