so, i blew my radiator or water pump or something, and i replaced pretty much everything (radiator, all hoses, thermostat, water pump). after priming the block post-installation to get the air out of the system, my temp gauge is normal while idling, driving low speeds, or when in neutral, but when i rev the engine or am going above 35 in drive (yes i have an auto lol ), the gauge slams down to C like it wants to jump past the pin.

could this mean that there's still air in the system? or do i just need to clean/replace my temp sensor? or what?

your temp sensor may be going bad, cheap replacement.

if anything try getting a aftermarket temp gauge as well, the oem ones suck.

make sure the sensor is connected properly. as the actual temp of the water goes up resistance in the sensor increases. check resistance of the sensor or that it's connected properly and make sure that it's getting 5 volts reference. also if you can, jump the wires in the connector to make sure that it's reading properly. it could just be the gauge that is bad.

This happened to me in my SR. I forgot what I did to fix it...I think I just replaced the coolant temp sensor...

They are like 20 bucks or so..

The sensor that drives that gauge is not the two wire temp sensor (thermistor) it is the 1 wire thermo-switch. Make sure you replace the right one.

Nissan OEM ECU Temperature Sensor S13 SR20DET KA24DE (http://www.frsport.com/index.php?target=products&mode=details&product_id=2199)

Thats the one I remember buying. It was on the top of my intake manifold. Not sure if "johngriff" is talking about that one?

Yeah, that is the wrong one to fix the gauge cluster

John is right, the red one is for the ecu. the one next to it is the gauge.

its the red sensor on the intake that the upper rad hose connects to the intake manifold.

No

NO

NO!

NO!!

It is not the colored two wire sensor! Its right next to it! It has one wire push on black square plastic connector, on a thick gauge black wire. Does not matter what engine type, all eccs nissans use this setup.
