I am trying to keep the amount of gauges limited on my S14 KA-T project. I was thinking just a Boost Pressure gauge and a A/F gauge both from Autometer. Is anything else really necessary? (I know nothing is really necessary, but I just don't feel the need for 5 gauges with voltage, water pressure, etc.).
But my main concern is the A/F ratio gauge. Since I am going with an E-manage with a Profec E-01 I am not sure what to do with it. Because after reading about the optional sensors/harnesses I came upon the external signal harness. All I have found on it is, "goes on the e-01 brain to read a/f input, TPS input, speed input, and much more!". I am not sure what to make of that snipet.
If anyone could give any input on the issues I addressed it would help.

from what ive read around here(im still a n00b) a egt(exhaust gas tempature) guage will be more accurate than a a/f guage...
but what do i know:)

water temp
oil pressure
oil temp
put those three someplace in clear view. your factory water temp is totally useless...it's a 'too late' warning stick.

The E-01 can accept a digital and an analog signal from an outside source, like gauges, meters, etc. The only bad thing I've found with the E-01 is that is can only display 2 things at once, ie boost and "whatever".
Personally, I'm a gauge whore. I've got GReddy p/h/w boost, water temp, egt, GReddy mechanical oil pressure, and a techedge wideband 02 I'm installing this weekend.

Interesting. But there is no way that it can display an A/F ratio on the screen WITHOUT an actual A/F gauge?

Hmmm...I bet it could, but I wonder if you'd have to go through the emanage. The techtom displays the narrow band A/F reading from the stock 02 sensor. I bet you could rig something up for it to display that. I'd search through the emanage group for that.
But, what the point? Using Narrowband A/F's aren't worth it, imo. EGT yes, Oil Pressure and Water Temp, definitely. Maybe the GReddy 4-wire A/F gauge, but that's $260, so why not just get a techedge? Which is how I ended up with one. Version 2.0 is coming out in a couple weeks, which will use a cheaper bosch 02 sensor too. And it'll be more advanced.
If you're running a fairly basic fuel setup, like 370's, I think you can get away without a wideband (just a couple dyno runs), but if you plan on big injectors, different MAF, etc., I would seriously consider it.
Or, you can run 50lb injectors/Z32 MAF, and I'll just send you my maps after I tune it.
