Pro...the picture is amazing. You can watch regular dvd's and it "up-converts" the quality.
Con...the cost of each movie.

I just saw on Attack of The Show that there is some ne deal that you can send in your regular DVD and get the Blu-Ray version for a couple bucks. I' gotta start looking through my collection of movies from over the years. I've got to have well over 100

If you're going to buy a player, you might as well get the new PS3. Best bang for your buck by far. Where else can you get an awesome gaming console and an upgradeable Blu Ray player all in one package?

Pros - Superb image quality

Cons - Cost prohibitive

I've got two blu ray players in my household, one being my PS3. At $20-$30 a movie, it's sort of hard to justify buying movies. I've been using netflix for the past year and so far it's totally worth the $25 a month for 3 movies out at a time.

every time I go to Bestbuy and see their LED TV w/ Blu Ray playing... I get stuck like a deer in head lights. Freakin crazy how detailed the movies look. Almost too weird for me to watch... lol

Seeing as most blu-ray players/ drives are $100+, for a little over $100 more, you might as well get a ps3 and do more with it. (edit ^^ beat me to it)

That's because they have that stupid 120hz feature turned on. It makes regular film and TV look strange. I've found that on my TV I only turn it on when I watch sports or documentaries like Planet Earth etc.

It makes things that are intended to look real, even more detailed. With everything else, it ruins that "film" feel to the footage.

Maybe Eric can chime in a bit more on this one, since he works in the film industry.

yes, exactly! it does ruins the movie-like experience... I'm sure it would be awesome to watch like National Geographic on it or something.. but not Transformers... ugh

worth it only if you think its worth it. i wouldn't spend 50 bucks on it.

i've had a ps3 for a year and my gf and i have watched one bluray movie on it. it was crisp, but neither of us gave a shit.

and we're too lazy to walk to the bluray section in the local blockbuster. so we just watch normal dvds.

I was a early adopter for BR and I haven't looked back since I had seen my first BR movie! Now I have movie night on my 1080P HD projector and people who come over to watch can't believe their eyes.

Anyways I say if you like moives and have the supporting tech (TV or whatever to display an image) go for it. Oh and if a player is that cheap, it's probably early tech and would be SLOW as hell when it starts up/use the menus.

Well worth it:
Blu-ray section is always full at the video store, so your movie is always in.
They are getting cheaper. Sony blu-ray at walmart for $140. And the movies are coming out cheaper now. Just bought Transformers 2 and Wolverine for $19.95 each. That is not bad.
To experience it in full HD must have a 1080P HDTV.

true on price..wrong on quality, it also depends on what kind of tv you have and what cables your running

Blu-Ray FTW!
Yes, you MUST have 1080P TV AND HDMI cable!!
Without either one you FAIL!
