Looking in the S13 redtop SR FSM in Japanese, I can't find the coils relay in this harness. Supposedly the ECU activates this relay to energize the coil packs.

I haven't opened the harness yet so I have no idea where the coil packs are getting battery current from.

I also can't find the check connector that is supposed to be connected to the trigger wire on the #1 coil.

Any ideas?

you mean the ignitor chip? that amps the coil packs.

they get power straight from the ecu, 5 wires in 4 wires out, one of the 5 is a ground... check and see if you have power on one side of the ingnitor chip, also f you have a freind see if his car will run off yours/yours run off his...

No, the coil pack relay supplies power to the primary coil. The ignitor chip or power transistor grounds out the coil signal.

Also not what I'm talking about. Coil pack relay is not the same as the power transistor.

also f you have a freind see if his car will run off yours/yours run off his...

I said this a thousand times before.

Absolutely not the right way to diagnose bad wiring. Never ever swap in a known good component into a chassis with questionable wiring.

That's a good way to burn up the good part.

According to all versions of SR FSMs the coil pack relay is supposed to be behind the ECU, but there is nothing there. I also don't see the check connector.

well it must not be part of the engine harness then, cuz there isnt a relay located on the S13 Engine interior section of the harness.

Now on the S14 SR20 there is

According to the Japanese S13 FSM, there is a relay.

Now I'm curious how the coil packs are getting power. I'll just have to trace the wire and see where they go.
