It all started when my car made a like not grinding but sound of metal hittin soemthing when I started it. Well went with my girl to the mall and as soon as I get there it jsut starts making that horrible sound and wouldnt stop. Finally it stopped after a min but did it agian when restarted. So I decided to leave it at sears parking lot over night and get there first thing in the morn to have them look at. Well to my surprise when I got there this morn it was gone. They had it towed  . So then I had to find out where it was towed and had to pay 265 to get it back. And it would be an extra 85 to tow it to our shop that I go to. Os I jsut payed 265 and had my friend tow me. So my day jsut kept gettin worse. WOuld anyone know what it could be.

i think you need to be a little more specific, where is the sound coming from, when does it do it, all the info you can think of will help people better help you

A guy came up and said it was my starter and that it was sticking in gear, which has been acting up a little lately. But I jsut replaced that 6 months ago.

i didnt think a starter would affect you when driving, unless you were getting that nasty sound when trying to start an already running car

It had no affect on how the car drove or acted it jsut made that nasty sound. Like if a piece of metal was in the muffler but it wasnt the muffler.

but if it was a starter problem, the sound wouldnt be coming from the rear of the car, the muffler

It wasnt from the back of the car it was in the engine bay. I jsut said it sounded like something in the muffler. Jsut to help show what it sounded like. I t came from the engine bay and was so loud couldnt tell which side it was on.

believe it or not it could be an exhaust heat sheild, take a look and see if they are all secured on

Had it checked out today and it was the starter. Now I have to send the starter in cause i jsut got it 6 months ago. And the parts store I got it at was mainly a east cost deal. And they dont have it here in the twin cities. So I have to send it out nad wait for it to get back. I am drivin my step dads truck now and I really miss my 240. Wont get it back till wed.

If it sounded like it was coming from under the car. Why don't you check the hear shield on the Cat, it might be that. They tend, to rust over time.

Also the noise only came when it started for like a sec then if I was in par kand reved it it would do it at 2 and half grand , but wouldnt make the noise going anywhere till the other day when it started constent noise. But the good news is my insurance company is paying me back for the tow cause we got tow insurance on my car and I didnt know that. or else I would had it towed to the shop in the first place.

Well the torque converter went out today :( Get to spend more money on that. I just had that all replaced in Dec. Well they estimated 800 for new flywheel and torque converter and labor. But have to wait till wends before they get a chance to look at it. What would make that go out that quick.
