Cool story, but it only cements my choice in getting out of the game while I was slightly under. I did the same shit a few years back but sold the car do to always wrecking the bumpers or something going wrong with suspension. Not to mention all the money waisted in tires.

I think at any given time I had 3-4 front and rear fascias waiting for the next to be destroyed.

I much prefer the grip game anymore and trying to improve lap times rather than see how sideways I can get.

Pretty funny reading an "outsider's" POV on drifting.

Seems like he spent atleast $1000 (bumper, tires, gas to and from, suspension piece, tow bill) to finish in the back and tear his shit up. Go drifting!

if you compete in any motorsports, it's not going to be cheap.
guy probably would have had it easier if that was also his only car.

also don't understand why ppl always have to slam their car so damn low.
maybe it's a difter thing.

+1 for Risky Devil for giving the "lad" a ride!

That sounds like what happened to me on a less serious note...I was forced out due to stolen property and such. If you don't have the money, as fun as it may be, this is good insight to stay out until you can afford it.

I don't disagree, all forms of motorsports are spendy, be it drift, drag, timeattack, circuit, or what have you but drifting seems to really push the envelope on how much you spend at a track day. I was spending upwards of 500-700 for a event I went to. When I got into time attack it dramastically dropped to about 3-400 considering tires every 2 events, brake pads every event, fuel and all that.

and ya I don't understand the whole slam the car on its nuts thing.

edit: not to mention if drifting the heightened chance of a collision then repair bills really start to add up

400 is peanuts, if you have to replace tires every other event & pads every event.

I spend more or less the same on a track like SWIR/buttonwillow (@ 200/day for track fees) .
I might get 10 track days out of a set 245/18 Dunlop Z1's & Hawk Hp+/Ferodo 2500's on my stock evo.

Competing (not that I'm anywhere near good enough) just takes the fun out of things considering the added expenditures and time needed.
It really is rich man's hobby.
AutoX is probably the most affordable motorsport you can compete in, relatively speaking.
Even I can afford to do it once a month.

Every motorsport costs money.

Just like every hobby costs money. If it were free why bother.

'Lad' is no worse than calling ppl "Son" (glad that horrendous fad is dying) or "Mijo/Mija" (very peasant Spanish term for my son/my daughter).
this is esp the case if the ppl you're reffering to, are no relation of yours.
Those are the bar-none most offensive & annoying to things say.

'Lad' actually was pretty popular some 20-odd years ago in England, and most likely longer.
At least the eeire presumption, that the person you are speaking is related to you, isn't there.
I'm going to start calling ppl that and see how they react, for shits & giggles.
Whether they are younger or older than me, it is no matter.

Throw a few "chaps" now and then to further bewilder your audience

Yeah it was a great read. I used to race motorcycles and I think by far that is the cheapest sport.... Low side ok, high side, new bike time.... But aside from that cars are REALLY expensive.... after modifications, coolant system problems, cooling, tires cracking rims.... cars are way expensive in general....

I love autox's but need better suspension, MR tracks suck....
