so im having an annoying little issue with my engine and i was hoping someone has seen this before and knows what it is before i replace what i think is the issue.

the engine is a s13 ka24de in a 95 s14 240sx

ill just describe my drive to work today and that is basically what it is doing

- start car in the morning (idling fine)

- let run for about 2 min. before i start driving to work (still cold)

- drives fine through and out of my neighborhood onto the main road

- i stop for traffic and upon putting the car in nuetral while coming to a stop the idle drops almost all the way to the point of the car cutting off but comes back up right as the dash lights are coming on to about 500 rpms and then proceeds to bounce from 500 to 800 rpm for about 5 seconds and then gradually levels out and idles normal at 800.

- continue to drive and car runs normal, have to stop again for traffic, as im slowing down, this time i just push the clutch in while still going about 15mph and the car cuts off, i let it out before stopping and car kicks back on, when i stop the idle drops again and stays around 500 until i move again. car is to normal operating temp. now

- i get to the next stoplight, come to a stop, the car dies. have to restart to continue driving (starts right up no problem)

- the last three times i have to come to a stop the car doesnt die, the idle doesnt drop, the cars runs totally normal.

- i get to work, pull into my parking spot, and car stops and idles normally.

i was thinking it may either be EGR valve or IAC valve that may starting to go bad but i wanted to get opinions on something else it may be before i bought/replaced them both.

thanks in advance

Could be a number of problems... Have you ran a self diagnostic check on the ecu to see if it's throwing codes?

You should check the base idle speed. If throttle plate is closing too much the idle motor has a hard time keeping with the engine. Warm the engine up, unplug the idle motor. Now see what your idle speed is. If the engine dies, then you do not have the throttle plate open enough. Turn the set screw till you get about 650-750 RPM. I am not sure what the spec is but this should get you close. Plug Iac motor back up and reset idle speed to spec now. With the base up the engine should not dip down so low and die.

I had the similar problem. I came to the conclusion that I must replace my IAC assembly but if you haven't seen the price on it yet its about 200 buck new and I haven't really went to the junk to look for one.
Well to get to the point I cleaned my IAC assembly with brake kleen and brushed off all the carbon and problem went away. You can try that. I clean it every summer cuz were I live it get pretty dusty and hot.
