So I have a few questions regarding my new build. I have been researching the Excessive Q45 TB manifold. I have heard people have not had good power gains over a stock manifold. If they have it was around 3-5 at peak rpms. Is this manifold setup a waste of money? I would rather spend my money elsewhere if this manifold and TB are going to be overkill for my NA motor. The injectors and fuel pump will be upgraded but I am not sure what size injectors to run. Will 370cc's work or should I go 4 to 5 range?
As for the ECU what is the most cost effective way to upgrade this? I have checked Jim Wolfe and Enjuku. Their Ecu's range from $500 to $600.
I'll be using a stock crank, AMS rods, Arias 10:6 pistons, AMS bearings, and ARP Hardware.
I have not decided on cams yet and I was wondering what you fellers might recommend, Crower Stage 3 3/4 race NA, Jim Wolfe, Brian Crower Stage 2s, or PDM/Coltcams? The prices are ranging from $300 to $800. I see GREASER used the Crower V3s.
And if you fill my thread with garbage about scrapping the KA or boosting it. I will scrap the EFI and slap on Two Weber Sidedrafts and own you all!!

you should boost it

if u wanna get any power gains i would go with higher compression pistons. and get a nistune over a basic chipped ecu.
also go with the crower v3s.
you wont see much power out of this setup compared to forced induction but you will have low end

370's are just fine.I would go with a larger maf(z32) and shorter larger intake pipe instead of the Excessive intake mani. though.Could also put that money saved towards lightweight parts like pulley, flywheel, driveshaft.

I'll have a light flywheel to go with my 4.3 clutch. Are we talking about the crank pulley, and would you recommend underdriven? What companies make said pulleys? I am assuming I will need to have a aluminum 1 piece driveshaft made.
So you are saying I should use my existing Injen shortram and retrofit a Z32 MAF? Are these throttle body underdrive pulleys worth the money?
Lastly I have done some research on TB boring I was wondering if this is a good Idea? I am aware that manifold portmatching is needed with this mod.

for peak power i would do nistune because its programable, also i would relocate battery and make a shorter intake and put the filter in the stock battery location so the intake tube isnt running along your radiator which is hot and can heat the intake also you will have shorter piping, also ditch clutch fan and look into electric fans, and i think n62 maf would be dumb because stock maf is good to about 260hp i beleive and you wont get that much power n/a.
honestly i think the idea of building a n/a ka is retarded but those are just my thoughts if you are dead set on it

MacDrizzle, is this s13 or s14? s14 G70 MAF is big enough to flow some good na hp numbers. If you are s13, replace with a n62 and tune with your choice of ecu upgrade. I choose NIStune. The Q45 TB is just too big and kills velocity in most n/a KA builds.
Sure its a poor investment. Yes we could have bought a SR for less and made more power. But that's not the point. KA na builds will typical cost more $$ per HP gained. But we do it for love of the challenge to increase hp numbers on a KA. Adding a turbo is just too easy a way to make power for some...

10:6 compression ratio is pretty shitty
i hope you mean 10.6
even then, for NA that is not that good. Be adventurous, get honda style high comp pistons... 12-13:1

Well said my friend!! I am not familiar with the N62 what is it from? Will it plug into my existing harness? As for the nistune are there any american retailers for this ECU? Do you use your existing ECU housing with this mod? I am not well versed with the electronics side of things.

I am the US Distributer for NIStune. You send your ecu in, we install the chip, and you get a consult cable and software license and reprogram your ecu yourself.
370cc injectors should be fine. S14 maf should be good. Do some research on rod weights, lighter=better for what your going for. I would want to run somewhere around 13:1 compression. Also balancing the crank would be nice.
Cams will help out big time. The throttle body from a q45 and intake mani actually seem to be a great idea, I feel that its very possible that the people that didnt report many gains from them most likely didnt alter their tune during the comparison pulls.
I personally know of a 205whp ka24e n/a. It was built back in 92 believe it or not and is still running strong.

Best gains are with the stock manifold and a 64mm bored and ported TB, and manifold opening. If you have alot of hours, you can spend time on grinding, you can port, hone, extrude your own intake manifold and increase the lower stock plenum runners diameter from 44mm to a bore of 45mm, to allow more flow.
A larger TB will also lessen the cylinder starvation to cylinder 1. Stock plenum manifold design usually starves cylinder 1 up to 3%~5% while cylinder 4 is happier and leaner at 7% higher than most of the other cylinders in the engine.
It's always best to have a MAF that is either greater than or equal to the throttle body size.
Stock G60 is 52mm, Stock G70 is 58mm, an N60 MAF (70mm) is best suited for high end HP, it's probably better to use than the N62 for purposes that deal with the hot wire/voltage range, and theoretical pulse width. If your MAF is less than the TB diameter then the engine isn't using 100% flow. It will also effect the load range and keep your fuel maps in the lower K value range, a bigger MAF is ALWAYS better, as long as the voltage range can be narrowed down to about the HP goals that you are trying to achieve with a NA build. Personally that's why I prefer the N60 over the N62 MAF for small cfm 4 bangers.
