Yep, after years of semi-absence from Zilvia (aside from random inconsequential and useless posts) and a couple of months of absence from Nissans, I am accidentally back…

Who am I? Some of you may have absolutely no idea and likely do not care. For those that may remember, I'll jog your memory… I'm this guy:

Yes, the semi-infamous Project Desert Storm:

After that car was sold in 2004, I ended up picking this thing up, a legalized DR30 Skyline RS Turbo:

The car was nicknamed "Doc" (DR30… DR… Dr… Doctor… "Doc"… Get it? Right.)

After displaying it at two JCCSs (2005 and 2006) and taking it to various meets, I parked it as I had absolutely zero time for it. So it sat until a couple of months ago, when I ended up selling it (some of you may have seen it at this year's JCCS):

So, I puttered around in my daily for a month and then decided to convert it to track-use-only status…

The daily:

I began to look for a daily driver… At first, I looked at '99 911s as they're relatively cheap. Then, after further research (IMS failure, RMS failure, intermix issues, $16k engine replacements), I became somewhat scared.

I looked for a more reasonable (read: upscale daily driver) car and came upon a Volvo S60R in impeccable condition and all service records. I was all set to buy it last Saturday. After all, such a car would have been perfect for my line of work:

The Volvo was similar to this pic, less the pin stripe and had the optional 18" version of those 17" wheels.

Last Friday, while bored at work, I browsed the Cars/Trucks section of Craigslist and came upon an '03 350Z Enthusiast with Nav. The car had 94k but had a 44k replacement engine, with receipts. It also had some not-so-aesthetically pleasing "mods" including blue (wtf?) film covering the headlights/markers/reverse lights.

I went to check it out after work at the insistence of the seller. It was there that I discovered that the car had Tanabe coilovers, braided brake lines and upgraded brakes. The price was excellent… But, I knew I had to be responsible. I knew that a 2-passenger car would be horrible for daily driving duties. I knew the luggage capacity was near-worthless. Hell, I knew that it had nowhere to hang up my dry cleaning and nowhere to hang my suit jacket up.

In short, I knew that the S60R the more perfect candidate. Yet the Nissan magnet was too strong and I parted with a deposit. I pay the rest and pick the thing up tomorrow.

So, without further ado, the new addition to the chokudoriS13 vehicle family:

Questions:
What should I be on the look-out for?
It was a pain in the ass to get the dipstick out. Is that normal?
The engine swapped in is an '04. Do they also burn oil?
Anything else important I need to know?

Welcome back...That's quite the upgrade BTW!

The only issues that I know of was the transmissions being messed up on the early models...

Tanabe coilovers? Guess you missed that...

Nice grab... I believe all the VQ motors burn oil to an extent, although not as bad as the motor that was swapped out infavor of the 04'.

Yeah, that's great.

There is a picture Thread for a reason.

Your "return" does not necessitate a dedicated thread.
