scooped hood advice

So I drove one hell of a car tonight...a new WRX, 2003

Very fast car, very fast and very grippy. Now that is a car that makes you look like superman. You can do crazy stunts by just flogging the throttle and you just point the car and it goes there (often sideways!)

ANYHOW

I want a scooped hood now. Where can I get one, something mild and believeable (ie to the untrained eye you would think the car came with it). It has to be a hood not just the scoop, and the scoop not too extreme. Any ideas and pics appreciated.

scoop at that place is pointless
if anywhere, add one over a air intake (cone filter)
or a reverse hood opening to let hot air out.

Ive seen them with an opening over the air intake, which looks silly since its not in the middle. Okay I do like your idea of a reverse one to remove heat...where can I get it?

It wont just cool the valve cover either it will circulate air

what does it do? cool your valve cover. wow. stock KA? how often do you go ot track again? i forgot....daily driving it isnt necessary, if it was, you would have one stock! sh*t even track its not necessary. if your engine gets THAT hot then you have engine problems! not circulation!

yeah i got TONS of pictures, some ads, various weblinks, etc and places to get hoods and scoops and hood insert reverse scoops.....but.....see above replies.

granted the lip may not do much of anything (maybe SOMETHING, but probably insignificant), but a scoop will actually hurt your cars performance (again, not significantly). also, zenki lips are super cheap, as opposed to a hood scoop. (which im sure he got his for free, or damn near close.)

unique. yeah that's what the first guy w/ the noen windshield nozzles said.
car is stock, so why mess it up?

mismatched wheels, actually few reasons:

i change tires often (at least 2 times a month) and cant always afford new tires. 2 full sets (and sometimes borrow friends' wheels) of wheels are easy to swap. also various offsets give the car various response and handling change as well as tire selections and sizes. Fuction over form. if i could, i have have 3 full sets of the exact same wheels. but wheels are pricy and a lot of theones i have are relatively hard to find (kosei k1 in a 15x7 +27 which clears z brakes AND coilovers w/o a spacer). ssr reverse mesh in a 5 lug pattern. also use sometimes ssr form mesh in a 4 lug pattern. used to have some 16x7 0 offset riken mesh. also used the stock steelies and alloys (15x6 +40) for the longest time (almost over year). also had some longchamps 15x7.5 +5.
those wheels all vary in size and offset. hence, changes car's performance.
i also play a lot with various alignment setups.
tire changes of course change the car immensily (sp)


the lip is looks. are you blind? i already said that above...i dont deny it.

my car makes 136.1 rwhp and 136.9 rwtorque. its been dyno'd. only power mod i have is a RS*R ExMag catback exhaust. that's it! i have a S-AFC waiting for me, just too lazy and dont want to spend the money tuning (read: ka is waste of money to me)
i dont even have a cone filter. i still have the Y-pipe on my car intake.yes, it's that stock.

anything else genius?

wrx have the intercooler on top. hence the scoop. FUCTION over form.

Personally, I don't think a hood scoop would go well on an s13 fastback. It has a low, sleek look with the older style long hood. I personally just don't think a hood scoop fits the design very well. Hell, I haven't seen a single aftermarket hood (that didn't look factory) that I have liked.

I could see a scoop like this lookin pretty cool, but that would require some custom hood. I don't know of anyone that makes them.

ive seen a FC style scoop on a white S13 fastback here, and it didnt look too good. he also has a full "nismo style" kit molded on (except the front). he was at the last drift event and had thefront off (so it wouldnt be damaged id assume), leaving his big expensive intercooler all exposed (yeah hes got an SR (i assume)). $300>bumper over a $7-900 intercooler? smart guy.

they all sell hood scoops its pretty sraight forward. Just cut and drill. Its going to look funny since you dont have a intercooler there [ thats why the WRX has em ] but fuggit if you want to its ur ride u can do what you want with it...

why do they paint all their cars pink? to be different to stand out. as Me and Dousan discussed rumors were they were building the KA. kinda like shops here bring over JDM vehichles to be different and get noticed they did the USDM thing.

how many companies would you think of over in japan have a real LHD "180sx"?

to be different and stand out from all the other 180sx and silvias at shows and events. also helps land a companies name in magazines and such.

i wanna angle my i/c so it points down, and is fed through the mouth, and the air goes over the engine then out the hood... that would be so sexy....

ok since you dont want to cut your hood, you can just get the hood scoop and mold it onto your hood w/o cutting it, it will still have the look but will be NON functional [ which i dont think you care about anyways ] but, you will still have to modify the hood one way or another, if you dont want o mess up your current hood just go buy another one for like 50 bucks in the forsale section
