Been having some really strange issues with my S14 SR20 ZENKI motor and was wondering if anyone on here could help

So my car had been runnig strange and I had a RED WE ECU in it.
I got a Black WC ECU and put it in the car, and the car instantly ran better. ALOT better.
Couple days ago, I go to start the car, and it wont start. everything works just NO SPARK at all.
Check everything over, and seems like ECU is the problem.
Take the ECU to my buddies car with an S14 SR and it doesnt start either, so i was convinced it was the ECU
.
But now i read up and it looks like the RED and Black stickers mean that the harness is either for a Zenki or chuki S14 sr20. Wondering if these two ECUs are interchangeable, and if not is that the reason the ECU just went out all of a sudden?

I thought it was a short in my Engine harness, but just want to see if I maybe caused it by running the black WE ecu instead of the RED one.

Any help would be awesome.

Also here is some info on the ECU differneces that i found

E5 is from a 94-96 180sx black top 5 speed
E6 is from a 94-96 180sx blacktop automatic
"RED" WC is from a 95-96 S14 Silvia zenki
"BLACK" WC is from a 96-97 S14 Chuki (transition, different maf plug)
NA is from a 97-98 s14 Silvia kouki 5-speed
62 is from a 91-93 180sx or S13 Silvia 5 speed
63 is from a 91-93 180sx or S13 Silvia automatic
J4 is from a 97-98 180sx Type X 5speed
J5 is 97-98 Type-X Automatic

Also:
S14 Zenki SR20's with Red WC Ecus will have a Rectange MAF plug
S14 chuki sr20's with black WC Ecus will have the oval MAF plug,
S14 Kouki SR20's with black NA ecu will have oval maf plug

62, 63, E5, E6, are all interchangable and will run any 5-speed 91-96 SR20DET S13
J4 and J5 will plug into but will not work on the pre 97 S13 SR20DET's without moving about 6 wires at the ECU plug.
Red and black WC/WE Ecus for S14 sr20's are interchangable, just watch the maf plug difference.
S15 maf (oval plug) and S14 Oval Maf's are interchangable.
But black NA ECU has a smaller plug, and simply will not fit on the pre 97- S14 SR20DET harnesses.

Thanks
Darius

I don't work on sr's as much, but when you think you have a ecu problem first check powers and grounds to ecu. If you don't have spark, do you have injector pulse? Does the check engine light come on? Can you pull codes from ecu? Will the computer communicate with a scanner? Try to induce a code by unplugging maf to see if the computer will self test. If you have injector pulse I would look to the ignition side. Check ign. module and coil.

ok i know this is and old post..
but i have spark..
fuel...
and no engine codes.....
but my ecu is dumping fuel.....
could my ecu be bad and iam not seeing it?
is it possible for ecu to be in limp mode still werk but just dump fuel?

Sounds like you have an injector that is stuck open. Or a bad FPR.

fpr is aftermarket isis type...
how can i check for the injector stuck open?

you may hav a broken injector seal also, i dealt with the problem many times and it is a bitch.

Hey im hoping this thread isnt too old that you wont reply but you wrote that the red WE and WC ecu's are interchangeable but to just to watch for the maf plug... what do you mean by that? Thank you.

Pretty sure it means make sure you have the same maf connectors as the plugs are different on WC and WE S14 SRs.

Hey dairius_tii I know your post is from 09 but I've been googling and have a problem similar to yours you had I'm not getting any spark, everything seems to work fine so I was wandering if the ecu was busted anyway hope you can get back to me on what your solution ended up being
