View Full Version : oil cooler and transmission cooler? are they same thing?

hey guys i looked around a couple of places here and google, but i was wondering if a "transmission oil cooler" is the same thing or could be used as a "oil cooler".

yes. you would need a pump though, so it would actually move fluid through it.

mustve been at the local parts store and saw the trans cooler behind the counter.

WTF? Did you even read what he asked? He's basically asking if you can use an transmission cooler core as an oil cooler.

To the OP: Yes you can but I'm not sure how efficient the core you got in mind would be.

Automatic transmission coolers typically have a smaller cross section and smaller lines, which is an issue with engine oil since it's heavier/thicker. Plus the fittings are just hose clamps, oil sees more pressure and would be more prone to leaks using a transmission cooler.

yea it was at a auto parts store, lol i actaully work at kragen auto parts, lol
