IIRC you have to repin the ecu connector and it should then work with the redtop.....

early model s13 blacktop.. will work fine on the redtop
Late model blacktop (j4 ecu) will need to repin (I have one that I may sell want to go with a haltech)
s14 blacktop.. sell it and buy one of the above.

Rican_nick hit it on the head.
You can plug it in and try to start the car w/o damage. It will just be sending a ground coil signal to the tack if it is a J4 on a 62 harness.
If you are not getting spark on no 1 with it plugged in, its a j4 ecu, and you need to repin.
ITS REALLY EASY.
Advice directly out of the guide: DONT PANIC.
