View Full Version : Air Temperature Sensor on 95

Sup all. I recently bought a 95 240SX slightly modded. The previous owner put an aftermarket intake on the car and didn't bother to fit an air temperature sensor onto it. I believe the mechanic said that it was a Kane or Kain aftermarket intake. I was wondering where can I buy a Air sensor (and for how much) and how difficult would it be to fit the damn thing on the intake. I'm by no means a mechanic; the most I've ever done is change the oil. But the mechanic said it should be easy to just jury rig it to the intake and said if I wanted to save money I should do it myself. Thanks.

ok first thing is the filter is a K&N filter. now do you know if the sensor is there at all? maybe the previous owner just didnt put it inline with the intake and left it to hang. if you do not have a sensor just pick one up at the dealer for like $80, or goto an auto store and get one for $40. there is a plug for it, so just plug it in and hook it up to the intake.

thanks for the help. yeah i see the plug for it. theres no sensor attached; the plug is just dangling. the thing is the mechanic mentioned that there really wasn't any place on the intake for the air sensor to go, so where should i stick it? thanks again.

I'll ease your worries and let you know that not having the air temp sensor will not affect your car in the least. It shouldn't even throw a "cel" due to it simply being a diagnostic sensor.....not anything that will inhibit the cars performance.....leave it off and be done with it.

BlackS14 - I'm curious to know how you came up to that conclusion. Please ellucidate.

black s14 is right, the IAT is an obd-2 diagnostic sensor that wont cause the car to run any different. it's not like the MAP and MAP/BARO or EGR/EVAP stuff either where they will throw a CEL. i used a MAFs adapter years back with the hole for the IAT of the 95-96 cars (used 2 screws...97-98 has one that slides and clicks in to the airbox ducting), so i let it hang and it didnt do anything. even unplugged it didnt.

95 and below 240s have IATs
pull it, car will throw a cell
Diagnose what? in what way? I'd like to see references?
Reason I ask is I actually took an OBDII class and what's been said doesn't make sense to me.

Holy fuck, welcome to three years ago.

IAT is found on SOHC cars and all S14s, it's not an OBD-II specific part but it is used for diagnostics only. Not needed for engine operation/idle/ecomony.

The previous owner of my 95' had a hole drilled in the actual K&N (the underside rubber part) but it broken off at the base of the wires when I removed it cause the guy did a ghetto job and well.. I don't know my own strength. Anyways it threw a code but my car ran exactly the same. Some people say you will run rich but im getting great gas mileage. Do a search for Air Temp Sensor
