this is one of those things you REALLY want professionally done, EVERYONE I've seen do it themselves end up with a REALLY crappy looking job, whether it turns purple, or bubbles all to hell or both.
Get it done professionally.

most professional places will give u a lifetime warranty for bubbles or scratches and plus it just looks better than a do it your self job

but the question is why does it turn purple and go bubbly and such? is it some special type of adhesive that allows it to preserve its color and non-bubblicious properties?

the turning purple happens because people who do DIY tinting use ****ty quality tint. most of the tint readily available in automotive stores sucks, and to do a proper tint job (diy or otherwise), you gotta use the same stuff professionals use.
the bubbles come from both inexperience and poor quality tint.

the tint i had in my s14 was like 5% when i bought it, i got pulled over cause of it and had to remove it. anyways the tint was on the car for like 2 years. still looked nice. it was a pro job. my friend also had a pro job done on his integra( oh my gosh, a honda, oh no) his tints turned purple after like 4 years, all i can say i eventually tints wear out, as with almost any other car part

Please do not do your own tint job, that is the riciest thing you can do especially if it turns out ****ty. Just like these guys said, get it professionally done, I did and have had them for 2 years and still look great.
**Make sure though that when you go to get it done get 1 Piece on the rear hatch, it costs a little more but if you get 2 pieces you will see the seams.

Even professional tint will turn purple. You have to maintain and care for it properly. That means no using Windex. It has amonia *sp*. Which fades the tint to that purple. I'm not saying that thats the only reason, that and quality. Just some info.
