What you want, I think, is a 97-98. Thats the model with the coveted "Angry Eyes" front end. That right there will cost you 8000, possibly more. A clip is something along 2500-3000? Thats about 11,000 right there. Plus install? Looks like youre gonna be way over budget.
ok 95 for around 3 to 4gs I have seen some online so that leaves 4 to 5gs for an install. What do you think about getting one from an auction.

95 for 3-4 Gs.. hahaha.. decent to clean s13s dohcs are going for $3000 to $3500 alone.. It might be possible to find a 95 for $4000 but it would most likely be 200,000 miles with problems. a decent s14 can be had for possibly $5k, higher or lower depending on where you are located and what you can find.
stock swap will be around $4000 mininum. thats with just the clip unless you want to go and just get a motor and a tranny but you'll probalby end up having to search for missing pieces that'll add up to more than a clip. nice clips from reputable companies are going for 2200+- 2500 for redtops at lowest. to get all the gaskets, belts, maintance parts you probably should consider when swapping. will cost a few hundred. a clutch and flywheel is at least $600-800. adding labor will be $1500 ($1000 at some places if you buy the clip from them) there's many other parts you want to replace/upgrade while you're at it so you're $8k will most likely not be enough.
$8k will get you a swapped s13 however, possibly a swapped sr s14 if you're lucky. however, if you do this on your own you still intend to do this, you will not be able to get an s14. $8k will get you close to a decently swapped s13. best bet is to buy a swapped s13 from someone for $6-8K. if you defintely need s14, save a little more junior. i hate that SCC article claiming ppl can build a "monstrous turbo silvia with 300hp" for $3000 and all the newbies jumping on the bandwagon. $3000 will get you a clip! thats bout it now.

just like 95% of newbie 240sx dreamers, you will not get that car and the swap and stay within budget. infact, in many cases, finding a 97 240sx for 8000 will be tough, and if you buy a car like that, get used to it first before doing a swap.
