View Full Version : Project silvia in Sport Compact
Did anyone read the article in the new issue of sport compact on their project silvia. Total Bull****. Said they took a red top sr20det, added Apexi intercooler, Greddy BOV, Nismo injectors, Koyo radiator, Jic exhaust, Greddy down pipe and other performance parts. They spent about 7500 bucks and said they only got 274 hp out of it at 15 psi. Is it just me, or does that not add up. Isn't the red top sr20 supposed to put out 205 hp at stock boost.

Didn't read it, but, that sounds about right for the original T25.
Stock power at 7psi is 205 at the flywheel. So 274 at the rear wheels is a nice increase.

most of those mods dont sound like power mods. more like, getting ready for big turbo, mod. hehe. just wait till the put in a bigger turbo, better manifold, better wasgate, and tune it. theats when you'll see some big numbers.

205 flywheel is 180ish at the rear wheels. so 270 at the rear wheels is a big jump. the cars also using that garret "disco potato" turbo.. same size basically as the T25 almost identical actually.
if you wanna compare that means the engine at the flywheel is somewhere around 320 up from 205. thats at the flywheel. compare 180 to 270 at the rear wheels. thats a 7500 jump
There wasn't a stock turbo on it, forgot to mention. they put a t3/t4 hybrid

which month is this? I think I already have the july issue...
its such a pain in the ass that they release magazines like 4 months in advance.
anyway to avoid confuse (and to make sure I pick this issue up before I fly out of the country for the summer) could someone tell me which month it is?

also they put MSRP prices.. no one pays MSRP for anything. you could do exactly what they did for much less.

it was the june issue
I read the whole article and It was the Disco Potato Turbo used for SE-R's. There was no talk about changing the stock turbo.

Magazines usually list MSRP prices because they often get the hookup and don't want to reveal how much of a discount they got, or else people would be bugging the manufacturers and sellers to get that lower price.
Also, SCC project cars are usually written up in the same fashion: first they talk about the newly bought car, then anything they need to fix/replace to bring it up to acceptable normal standards, then they usually do a brake/suspension upgrade, then they start doing mods to prep the vehicle for making big power. Nothing different with Project Silvia.

you guys REALLY have the wrong idea about the disco potato. call garrett and ask about it. there is a reason its a concept turbo and not on the market yet. its alot more than a gt28r.

BAH! Disc Potatoe sucks for big power. Look at the compressor maps, it's really not good for all that much power.

but what if you don't want huge power? did you read that they see boost at 2200 rpm? that's insane. there is a reason i'm putting a T28 on my car...and it's not because i want 350hp. i want 250hp...but i want it on tap all the time. a T3/T4 will not deliver. i would get this "disco potato" turbo, but i'm sure it's about $1500 at least.

yeah it sounds like a great street/auto-x turbo but its not for me. I'm looking at a couple options http://www.mjmturbos.com/images/T28T04B.jpg
and http://www.mjmturbos.com/images/T25turnedT28.jpg
for a little more ummph. I wanna do more full track events as well as autocrosses. plus a few drag races. the DP is nt gonna give me enough flexability I fear.
Zspturbo - I have a good idea what it is. the SCC article talked alot about it and I went back and reread the first article about the SER with it after reading this one. and according to the articles it IS available.
