1997 S14 w/S13 blacktop, E5 ecu...chuki s13 SR, is that considered OBD1? There is no LED in my ecu, oddly, so I can't count the LED blinks. It doesn't look like someone took out the LED neither, unless they took it out and resoldered the holes back perfectly. Someone said I can count the blinks with the CEL but if the car is obd2 and the ecu/motor is obd1 then there wouldn't be power to CEL. *checked* It does not come on when key is "ON" position. Is there another way to get codes?
The problem: Just got a mail order rom tune. I won't say the tuner's name yet. It will not rev past 2000rpm. At idle, at first AEM UEGO AFR reads 15.x then drops and steadys at 10.0:eek:. And the rpm bounces from around 750 to 1000 rpm at idle.
The chip is soldered in so I doubt it could unseat itself during shipping, etc... Checked my Z32 MAFS wiring, they are correct. A bad/broken MAFS would not allow the car to start in the first place, correct? Coolant temp sensor is new. Disconnected battery for a few minutes to maybe reset the ecu, but it did not help. I am communicating with the tuner but I would like others to jump in on this. The more minds the merrier. Thanks in advance.

There's no ODB1, 2 with the SR. You need to wire the CEL light to the correct pin on the SR ECU. Once you've done that, the procedure to check the codes is the same. A bad or broken MAFS will still allow you to start the car.

Exactly how would I go about wiring in the CEL light (or a spare LED) to that ecu pin? Would I wire positive of bulb/led to pin #24(?) and negative to chassi?:smash: I doesn't seem like it would be hard but I'd like to make sure.

heres an idea.... for the amount you paid for a rom tune you could have spent a little bit more and be running nistune, which when connected to will display any check engine codes and what they are. the problem is probly your rom tune. telling someone over the internet that you have blank maf, blank injectors, blank motor,blank turbo, and letting them "tune" your car from 1k miles away is stupid. for the amount you paid for your eugo you could be on nistune or saving towards a power fc or similar.
if you are trying to read the engine codes to figure out whats wrong with your car, but the ecu is a reflashed one that you arent 100% sure of whats on it, your kinda wasting your time. perhaps you should get a stock ecu and put it in and leave the car alone rather than trying to wire in an led on ecu thats been tampered with.

sorry if that comes off as douchebaggery but the fact of the matter is you sent hte ecu to someone you dont know to have them tune it and now that you have it back your car isnt running and you are worried about the led indicator on the ecu

I know the "standalone on the dyno is the best" bandwagon. It is the best, I know. I don't plan on doing anything else to the car, nor do I aim for anything over 300whp, so I don't believe spending $1000+ for a tuning system + tuning/dyno time and labor is worth it. AEM Uego, $200, where can I get a Nistune for $200? Let me know so I can abandon this route. I don't know the person who did my tune but I did research their work/customer reviews, etc... But thanks for your input.
Sorry if this sounded off in anyway because I know where you're coming from. I just chose not to go that route. Now, do you know anything about my problem to help besides "I should have went standalone?"

Find your MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) pin on your S14 harness F3 connector plug, run a wire from that pin to pin 24 on the SR ECU plug.
I have a Zenki otherwise I would give you the exact pin location of the MIL.

nistune is 500 with them doing the instalation it comes with basemaps. its plug and play and it allows you to access view and assess the systme whenever you need to rather than assuming that an ecu is tuned for what you think it is. whether you plan on building a monster or a daily with 200 hp doesnt matter its cheap and easy. the only reason im suggesting this is because i went through several rom tunes from reputable people and none of them worked for my car so essentially i could have been on haltec or something by the time i was done wasting money on roms.

Thanks, will research for the mil pin on my harness and try this out.

The other thing is there are no Nistune tuners around here. Only thing standalone I could look at is AEM or Apexi with the only reputable shop around would be AMS(Mitsu EVO guys) in IL. I'd probably have to get my car towed there. $$$ either way.
