I just recently got a 96 240sx 5sp with only 34000 original miles on it. Do you think it can be turboed safely? If so, how long should the engine last? Do you need to change or buy anything when purchasing a turbo kit? Im looking for a turbo kit sooner or later and just wondering what you KAT people are using for turbo kits. I seen the Greddy advertising the turbo available for the 240sx but not sure if its in the process of development or its for sale. Any help would be great. Thanks

No car originally non turbocharged is 100% safe to turbo regardless of the miles. Remember that factory turbo cars have the whole engine built just for that particular turbo. Better stronger parts are used, more heat resistent and so on. But with that few miles on it. Why not go for it if u got the money. KA is a strong motor and it should last u awhile if u don't drive it into the ground like an a*$hole.

I'd have to disagree there. I think with a well designed turbo kit you should do just as well as a car that comes from the factory with a turbo. Factory turbo'd cars usually only push about 7 psi of boost, which really isn't all that much to prepare for. As long as you do your research and make sure you use the right parts, you should be fine.

Most factory turbo cars are overbuilt (2JZ, 4G63, RB, SR) All are overbuilt to keep the same reliability of a n/a car. Most cars are made to drive reliably with regular maintenance for at least 150k miles and turbo cars are built for the same milage with the same amount of maintenance.
By turboing a n/a car you do essenially reduce the life span of the engine but by properly turbo charging a car that reduction can be minimized.
Proper tuning, fueling and boosting you can have a very reliable KAT. It is when you start to try to make big numbers that you run into problems because any errors in tunning or spiking can have much more detrimental effects on the engine. I.E. if you are boosting 6psi and spike to 10psi there is less damage then if you are boosting 20psi and spike to 30psi (that can get ugly) On my sr I occasionally spike to 18psi but since the SR is overbuilt it is not as big of a concern (now the T2small is a different story)

yea, your'e fine for a long time, just keep checkin' the motor to make sure it's okay from time to time. the standard 7psi is all I'd do unless you reforged your engine internals and beefed it up a bit more (then increase the boost a lil), but yea, if you wanna KA-T go for it

yeah, those low miles should be ok for turbo, depending on the application and how much boost you put in, your most likely not going to have to touch the internals unless you are putting serious boost in your car....the only thing, (if low boost) i would definatly do, is redo all fuel....

from what i've read on this board. its mainy not the #4 cylinder i hear blow all the time. research that and make sure you don't run into that problem.

I have 40k on my engine and its doing fine at 5.5 PSI, stock internals, stock fuel, but Im only using a T3, and I bought a really nice wastegate to prevent spikes. I dont plan to rebuild my engine unless I blow it up and Im gonna be pushing it as hard as I can. Ace is pushing 10+ psi on stock internals I belive. Your engine should be fine for boost. Just make sure you know what your doing.
