So the power steering rack in my s13 is crap... leaks all over the place. I feel like i should just buy one of the rebuilt ones as i dont know what condition the rack is in overall...
it might just need some new gaskets, but im not sure.
anyone have and rebuilding advice, or anyone know a place that has good quality rebuilt racks for a reasonable price?
thanks

Rebuilding is not for the inexperienced, if your skills with mechanics are lacking or questionable, buy a reman rack. All the work is done for you already. Even the dealer doesn't rebuild them, they just replace it, sending the old one for core.

well im pretty mechanically inclined overall, but i've never rebuilt a steering rack before. i was kinda leaning towards a reman rack just because, yea, ita already done for ya and its not that much money in the big scheme of things...
when you buy a remanufactured rack, do they do any cleanup of the metal parts at all, or do they just make sure everything looks OK and then replace all the seals?
I've found a bunch of places that sell remanufactured steering racks, for as low as 150ish after you send in your core.... but does anyone know what companies are reputable as far as remaned racks go?
thanks

I have just rebuilt my HICAS steering rack. I've found no silvia forums have done it so I decided to do it myself. I got messed up a bit, but overall, i'm satisfied with it on my car right now. It is not that hard.
If you have a regular steering rack, I would suggest you get a reman one since they aren't that expensive and won't get mix up like the HICAS rack.
I can post up a write up when i have time later this week.

Any reman rack you buy will be thoroughly gone over, anything that needs or requires replacing is replaced, everything else is cleaned and painted. Some places just paint the whole thing gloss black, others do silver on the cast part and clear everything else.
