So I've been saving money for awhile for my planned SR20DET swap but I had this crazy thought.
How about a CA18DET powered S14. I asuming this would bolt right into the S14 with no problems. SR exhaust would work with it. FMIC could just use custom piping. Not sure on the intake or down pipe though what could be used or who suports CA parts. Also not many people know the CA ECU so using piggy back A/F and boost controllers may be a problem.

same piggy backs that work with sr will work with ca, most come with instructions for both.
downpipe... sr will work with sr turbo extension, otherwise takakaira has the HKS ca18det. from there on its the same as ka/sr/whatever
there are guys with s14's and ca's already.

if you're doing this to save money... buy yourself a redtop SR instead of a s14 blacktop. if you're doing this to be different, its been done.
if you're just wasting time bored to death, damn you!

nah dont
CA18DET? suuucks
ended in 91. so its been sitting in a junkyard or putting around for a few years before meeting the junkyard dawgs. definately requires rebuild $$$$$
if you buy a CA it needs special attention. its a great motor, but for the average joe, it aint worth it.
dont dont dont!
go s14 SR20DET. i know you can get one cheap so do it
dont go S13 engine, that's weeeeeeak
go s14, its smooth, good lowend, nice power, and perfect for your car.
also i was reading some law books, its a requirement when you go SR that you sell your nasty side skirts, spoiler and bumper and get something more tasteful (gp sports)

HAHAHA.....:D I agree. You own an S14 so why don't you put an S14 SR in it. Makes sense to me. :)

don't listen to stupid people, the ca18det is a really, really nice engine. I know guys running the stock 1.8 liter displacement who have well over 400 hp to play with.
Just like any other engine that old (IE SR20DET REDTOP) you gotta take care of it and recondition it with new seals and such.
Some guys on this board talk trash about it cause it isn't the "IT" thing to have right now, but most of them don't know anything about it, they are just parroting **** back that other people (most of whom don't know anything about the engine) said to them.
the CA is stout, is an iron block, had piston oil squirters, and a seperate timing belt. Its technologically more advanced than the SR but it met an early demise in the s13 chassis because it was more expensive to produce. Many of the features pioneered in the ca18det went on to be used in the RB26dett.
If you want and engine to buy and throw in your car and run for 50k miles, get the newer SR20 motors, simply because they are fresher and have more parts sources here. But for the money you pay for one of them, you could have an upgraded ca18det, and if you take care of it (and get a good, quality engine) it is a very nice engine.
I'm almost 100% certain that I myself will be swapping CA this fall.

This is very true. The susposed 35-45k miles that people say they have is crap. Unless you have the guage cluster thats says the actual mileage then don't believe. I got my RED TOP SR with the "35-45k" they told me over the phone and included the guage cluster. After I converted the mileage it turns out that I have 75,000 :( I'm sure engine has a lot of life left in it but I was disapointed and mad
Just to be clear, I was agreeing with dousan about putting the S14 SR in an S14. I actually really like the CA. I love high reving engines. :D

just wondering, how did you convert the mileage?

using math
Uh, I think you'd better check your "school days" math, because there is 1 Kilometers to .61 mile. Your 45,000 km engine has 27,962 mi.

Wouldn't it be .609? I guess you rounded it.
Um, whose 45,000 km engine?? mine has 120,000 km on it (actually I think it might be less so maybe I have like 70k miles) anyway,
Sorry for the misinfo. What I posted would covert miles to km. Deleted the post to fix my mistake :D I should have known that wasn't right :( I do that a lot........
Oh, I see. I thought when you said "I got my RED TOP SR with the '35-45k'" you meant that you're engine had 35k-45k km and then you converted it to be 75k miles. Sorry bro.
