View Full Version : best way to apply widebody

k my ?ion is i bought rear quater panels for my s-14 the wider overfenders, k should i sand down my old quaters then rivet the new ones to the bare metal then put my fiber glass bondo ect. or go ahead and just rivet them to body as is. im new to this body work stuff but i do have common knowledge its just that i want to see how other ppl have done it or how a proper body shop would do it

You have to cut the fenders higher to about the body line.

Then rivet the over fenders on.

ok i saw a you tube video where they did that they cut origanl fenders about 2in up then knocked fender well up n re welded it thats so u can take advantage of lower stance and wider tire right

Anyone have pics, or a full write up? I'm interested in this myself, as I have some rust on my fender well lips. (among other places)

The point of widebody is to create clearance for bigger wheels and/or lower suspension.

You start by cutting the seam between the inner and outer fender. Then you fold the excess metal back onto itself to create a new lip and weld the two sides back together.

You can fill the holes and gaps in the new lip with seam sealer and body filler to prevent smoke and debris from entering the cabin.

It's simple. Compared with the green car which is stock. Both cars have the same wheels and suspension for consistency so you can tell the difference.
