View Full Version : Exhaust Weight - Stock vs Titanium?
I was wondering how much a stock exhaust or other aftermarket exhaust weigh. I know the JIC Ti exhaust is about 13lbs.
Also, I know there are other companies that sell full Titanium cat backs for a hell of allot cheaper then JIC's. Unfortunately I do not remember the site or company(s) that offered them so if anyone knows please feel free to enlighten me. Thanks!

From my knowledge I thought questions like this were banned from zilvia, and if someone did ask a question like this they would get flamed, and called, stupid, but i guess since West runs this thing he has exceptions, I have nothing against you west Its just dousan kind of you know, says F*ck you to anyone else besides yourself that asks questions like that. Why dont you treat everyone equal dousan, or are you racist? Something wrong with being new to 240's or not know EVERYTHING like yourself, some people dont have all the answers, saying f*ck you, and acting like your superior is not the attitude that the moderators want in our community, or at least thats what they have expressed in the past, isnt that right West, im sure the mods arent hipocrits.
Example of the F*ck you attitude.

If you don't like the people on this forum then go somewhere else.
Well, its already been established that im a well known ricer, so dousan36 cant say much...
hehe, NOT :p
Anyways, right after I posted this I read the Project Silvia Article in SCC and sure enough there was the JIC and Stock Exhaust weights and all :)
Stock = Aprox 25lbs
JIC Ti = 13lbs
I havent checked the compaies you guys mentioned but I saw one company that made Ti exhausts for RX7s, 240sx, etc etc. For damn cheap($600-$700), of course im sure the quality isnt as good, but none the less id still like to check it out. Ill try to find it again.

If you get a ti exhaust, make sure the welds are good, and that the hangers are fitted with a sleeve, and not welded to the canister. The hangers that are welded to the canister tend to break off at the welds under stress.
btw- nismo_sr20_wut - chill the fu*k out.. you should know by now not to take anything Dousan says seriously. Being an ass is a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it. :) lol
Yea, Im not a fan of Titanium to being with. Back in my BMX days I bought some BADASS Titanium cranks that I saved forever for ($300) :) Installed them and took my bike to the dirt park and two jumps later the left crank broke off a landing and made me take a nasty digger. Since then I havent trusted Ti :) Although itd still be cool on a car though :p

hehehe, awesome :P
Y'know, dousan is one of the more knowledgeable guys here. . . you just gotta learn when to take him seriously and when not to ;)
Back on topic. . .
If I am remembering correctectly, titanium is a fairly flexible metal (I recall reading about a titanium mountain bike with pivotless full suspension by using the flexibility of titanium). I don't think I'd call it a "soft" metal, given it returns to it's original shape, unlike something like lead or even aluminum
I'm no metallurgist, but aside from the weight gains, I personally don't see any great advantage of going with titanium over stainless. . . Any other thoughts?

damn i wish/hope ruf will post
he knows all this titanium stuff and knowledgable on it
i think it owuld be great for a track car. i'd be too scared to break it though. hehe..normal exhausts (aftermarket) are cheap and easy to get so no worries if i grind it on the lip of the track hehehehe..but a titanium i would cry..that is unless it was sponsored to me :p

Yeah I'm making a track car and was lookin around for real world benifits of Ti exhausts vs. everything else. I was gonna go N1, then I thought about Apex'I GT (which is HUGE and I don't like the muffler design), to something like a 3" JIC Ti exhaust. Exhaust is exhaust right. All are about the same + or - 1 HP

If your going ot be using the car for track only it might be worth it for you to look into Trust TR Power Evolution II exhaust, from what i understand this is not a street legal exhaust and was built for maximum performance for turbo cars, pretty much just a straight pipe with a high performance muffler. Everything ive read on this exhaust is in japanese, so you might have to find someone who can get it imported for you. Heres a Link.
